1 John 2:1-6 CEV
(1) My children, I am writing this so that you won't sin. But if you do sin, Jesus Christ always does the right thing, and he will speak to the Father for us. (2) Christ is the sacrifice that takes away our sins and the sins of all the world's people. (3) When we obey God, we are sure that we know him. (4) But if we claim to know him and don't obey him, we are lying and the truth isn't in our hearts. (5) We truly love God only when we obey him as we should, and then we know that we belong to him. (6) If we say we are his, we must follow the example of Christ.

1 John 2:1-6 NWT
. . .My little children, I am writing you these things that you may not commit a sin. And yet, if anyone does commit a sin, we have a helper with the Father, Jesus Christ, a righteous one. 2 And he is a propitiatory sacrifice for our sins, yet not for ours only but also for the whole world's. 3 And by this we have the knowledge that we have come to know him, namely, if we continue observing his commandments. 4 He that says: "I have come to know him," and yet is not observing his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in this [person]. 5 But whoever does observe his word, truthfully in this [person] the love of God has been made perfect. By this we have the knowledge that we are in union with him. 6 He that says he remains in union with him is under obligation himself also to go on walking just as that one walked.

1 John 2:1-6 ALT
(1) My little children [or, My dear children], I am writing these things to you* so that you* do not sin. And if anyone does sin, we have a Counselor [or, an Advocate] with the Father, Jesus Christ, [the] righteous. (2) And _He_ is [the] propitiation [or, appeasing sacrifice] concerning our sins, but not concerning ours only, _but_ also concerning the whole world's! (3) And by this we know that we have come to know Him, if we are keeping His commandments. (4) The one claiming, "I have come to know Him," and does not keep His commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him. (5) But whoever is keeping His word, in this one the love of God has truly been perfected; by this we know that we are in Him. (6) The one claiming to be abiding in Him just as that [One] walked ought also in the same manner himself to be walking.

You will note the reference windows often include more than one translation of the Bible. The reason is to strive to gain the best possible understanding of the original Hebrew and Greek. Since we don't speak those languages, we rely on those who have come before and made the effort to translate those texts into English for us. Considering several translations gives the benefit of the understanding of several translation committees or individuals.
The Translations we quote are:

ALT - Analytical Literal Translation

ASV - American Standard Version (by the American revision committee in 1897).

Darby - 1889 Darby Bible

DRB - 1899 Douay-Rheims Bible

BBE - 1965 Bible in Basic English

LITV - Literal Translation of the Holy Bible

KJV - King James Version

MKJV - Modern King James Version

NWT - New World Translation

Webster - 1833 Webster Bible

RV - Revised Version

YLT - Young's Literal Translation
