1 Peter 4:1-8 BBE
(1) So that as Jesus was put to death in the flesh, do you yourselves be of the same mind; for the death of the flesh puts an end to sin;
(2) So that you may give the rest of your lives in the flesh, not to the desires of men, but to the purpose of God.
(3) Because for long enough, in times past, we have been living after the way of the Gentiles, given up to the desires of the flesh, to drinking and feasting and loose behaviour and unclean worship of images;
(4) And they are wondering that you no longer go with them in this violent wasting of life, and are saying evil things of you:
(5) But they will have to give an account of themselves to him who is ready to be the judge of the living and the dead.
(6) For this was the reason why the good news of Jesus was given even to the dead, so that they might be judged as men in the flesh, but might be living before God in the spirit.
(7) But the end of all things is near: so be serious in your behaviour and keep on the watch with prayer;
(8) And most of all be warm in your love for one another; because in love there is forgiveness for sins without number:

(1) Therefore, Christ having suffered [or, since Christ suffered] on our behalf in [the] flesh, _you*_ also arm yourselves with the same mind [or, attitude], because the one having suffered in [the] flesh has ceased from sin,
(2) so as to live the remaining time in the flesh no longer in the lusts of people, _but_ in [the] will of God.
(3) For the time of life having past [is] sufficient for you* to accomplish the desire of the Gentiles, having gone [fig., lived] in flagrant sexual immorality, lusts, drunkenness, drunken orgies, drinking parties, and unlawful [fig., abominable] idolatries;
(4) in which they are surprised [by] your* not running with [them] into the same excess of reckless living, speaking evil of [you*],
(5) who will give an account to the One being prepared to judge [the] living and [the] dead.
(6) Because for this [reason] the Gospel also was proclaimed to [the] dead, so that they shall be judged, on the one hand according to people in [the] flesh, on the other hand they shall live according to God in [the] spirit.
(7) But the end of all [things] has drawn near. Therefore, be sober [or, clear-headed] and be self-controlled in your* prayers.
(8) Now above all [be] having fervent love for one another, because such love will cover a multitude of sins.

4 Therefore since Christ suffered in the flesh, you too arm yourselves with the same mental disposition; because the person that has suffered in the flesh has desisted from sins, 2 to the end that he may live the remainder of [his] time in the flesh, no more for the desires of men, but for God's will. 3 For the time that has passed by is sufficient for you to have worked out the will of the nations when you proceeded in deeds of loose conduct, lusts, excesses with wine, revelries, drinking matches, and illegal idolatries. 4 Because you do not continue running with them in this course to the same low sink of debauchery, they are puzzled and go on speaking abusively of you. 5 But these people will render an account to the one ready to judge those living and those dead. 6 In fact, for this purpose the good news was declared also to the dead, that they might be judged as to the flesh from the standpoint of men but might live as to the spirit from the standpoint of God. 7 But the end of all things has drawn close. Be sound in mind, therefore, and be vigilant with a view to prayers. 8 Above all things, have intense love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins.
