John 5:15-47 CEV (15) The man left and told the leaders that Jesus was the one who had healed him. (16) They started making a lot of trouble for Jesus because he did things like this on the Sabbath. (17) But Jesus said, "My Father has never stopped working, and that is why I keep on working." (18) Now the leaders wanted to kill Jesus for two reasons. First, he had broken the law of the Sabbath. But even worse, he had said that God was his Father, which made him equal with God. (19) Jesus told the people: I tell you for certain that the Son cannot do anything on his own. He can do only what he sees the Father doing, and he does exactly what he sees the Father do. (20) The Father loves the Son and has shown him everything he does. The Father will show him even greater things, and you will be amazed. (21) Just as the Father raises the dead and gives life, so the Son gives life to anyone he wants to. (22) The Father doesn't judge anyone, but he has made his Son the judge of everyone. (23) The Father wants all people to honor the Son as much as they honor him. When anyone refuses to honor the Son, that is the same as refusing to honor the Father who sent him. (24) I tell you for certain that everyone who hears my message and has faith in the one who sent me has eternal life and will never be condemned. They have already gone from death to life. (25) I tell you for certain that the time will come, and it is already here, when all of the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God. And those who listen to it will live! (26) The Father has the power to give life, and he has given that same power to the Son. (27) And he has given his Son the right to judge everyone, because he is the Son of Man. (28) Don't be surprised! The time will come when all of the dead will hear the voice of the Son of Man, (29) and they will come out of their graves. Everyone who has done good things will rise to life, but everyone who has done evil things will rise and be condemned. (30) I cannot do anything on my own. The Father sent me, and he is the one who told me how to judge. I judge with fairness, because I obey him, and I don't just try to please myself. (31) If I speak for myself, there is no way to prove I am telling the truth. (32) But there is someone else who speaks for me, and I know what he says is true. (33) You sent messengers to John, and he told them the truth. (34) I don't depend on what people say about me, but I tell you these things so that you may be saved. (35) John was a lamp that gave a lot of light, and you were glad to enjoy his light for a while. (36) But something more important than John speaks for me. I mean the things that the Father has given me to do! All of these speak for me and prove that the Father sent me. (37) The Father who sent me also speaks for me, but you have never heard his voice or seen him face to face. (38) You have not believed his message, because you refused to have faith in the one he sent. (39) You search the Scriptures, because you think you will find eternal life in them. The Scriptures tell about me, (40) but you refuse to come to me for eternal life. (41) I don't care about human praise, (42) but I do know that none of you love God. (43) I have come with my Father's authority, and you have not welcomed me. But you will welcome people who come on their own. (44) How could you possibly believe? You like to have your friends praise you, and you don't care about praise that the only God can give! (45) Don't think that I will be the one to accuse you to the Father. You have put your hope in Moses, yet he is the very one who will accuse you. (46) Moses wrote about me, and if you had believed Moses, you would have believed me. (47) But if you don't believe what Moses wrote, how can you believe what I say?

John 5:15-47 NWT 15 The man went away and told the Jews it was Jesus that made him sound in health. 16 So on this account the Jews went persecuting Jesus, because he was doing these things during Sabbath. 17 But he answered them: "My Father has kept working until now, and I keep working." 18 On this account, indeed, the Jews began seeking all the more to kill him, because not only was he breaking the Sabbath but he was also calling God his own Father, making himself equal to God. 19 Therefore, in answer, Jesus went on to say to them: "Most truly I say to you, The Son cannot do a single thing of his own initiative, but only what he beholds the Father doing. For whatever things that One does, these things the Son also does in like manner. 20 For the Father has affection for the Son and shows him all the things he himself does, and he will show him works greater than these, in order that you may marvel. 21 For just as the Father raises the dead up and makes them alive, so the Son also makes those alive whom he wants to. 22 For the Father judges no one at all, but he has committed all the judging to the Son, 23 in order that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He that does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him. 24 Most truly I say to you, He that hears my word and believes him that sent me has everlasting life, and he does not come into judgment but has passed over from death to life. 25 "Most truly I say to you, The hour is coming, and it is now, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who have given heed will live. 26 For just as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted also to the Son to have life in himself. 27 And he has given him authority to do judging, because Son of man he is. 28 Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice 29 and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment. 30 I cannot do a single thing of my own initiative; just as I hear, I judge; and the judgment that I render is righteous, because I seek, not my own will, but the will of him that sent me. 31 "If I alone bear witness about myself, my witness is not true. 32 There is another that bears witness about me, and I know that the witness which he bears about me is true. 33 you have dispatched men to John, and he has borne witness to the truth. 34 However, I do not accept the witness from man, but I say these things that you may be saved. 35 That man was a burning and shining lamp, and you for a short time were willing to rejoice greatly in his light. 36 But I have the witness greater than that of John, for the very works that my Father assigned me to accomplish, the works themselves that I am doing, bear witness about me that the Father dispatched me. 37 Also, the Father who sent me has himself borne witness about me. you have neither heard his voice at any time nor seen his figure; 38 and you do not have his word remaining in you, because the very one whom he dispatched you do not believe. 39 "you are searching the Scriptures, because you think that by means of them you will have everlasting life; and these are the very ones that bear witness about me. 40 And yet you do not want to come to me that you may have life. 41 I do not accept glory from men, 42 but I well know that you do not have the love of God in you. 43 I have come in the name of my Father, but you do not receive me; if someone else arrived in his own name, you would receive that one. 44 How can you believe, when you are accepting glory from one another and you are not seeking the glory that is from the only God? 45 Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father; there is one that accuses you, Moses, in whom you have put your hope. 46 In fact, if you believed Moses you would believe me, for that one wrote about me. 47 But if you do not believe the writings of that one, how will you believe my sayings?"

John 5:15-47 ALT (15) The man went away and told the Jews that it is Jesus, the One making him well. (16) And for this reason the Jews were persecuting Jesus and were seeking to kill Him, because He was doing these things on a Sabbath. (17) But Jesus answered them, "My Father is working until now, and _I_ am working." (18) Therefore, for this reason, all the more the Jews were seeking to kill Him, because not only was He breaking the Sabbath, _but_ He also called God His own Father, making Himself equal to God. (19) So Jesus answered and said to them, "Most positively, I say to you*, the Son is not able to be doing anything of Himself unless He sees the Father doing [it], for whatever He is doing, these also the Son likewise does. (20) "For the Father affectionately loves the Son and shows to Him all which He Himself does, and greater works than these He will show to Him, so that _you*_ shall be marveling. (21) "For even as the Father raises the dead [ones] and makes alive, so also the Son makes alive whom He wills. (22) "For neither does the Father judge anyone, _but_ He has given all judgment to the Son, (23) so that all shall be honoring the Son just as they honor the Father. The one not honoring the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him. (24) "Most positively, I say to you*, the one hearing My word and believing [or, trusting] the One having sent Me has eternal life and does not come into judgment, _but_ has passed from death into life! (25) "Most positively, I say to you*, an hour is coming and now is when the dead [ones] will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those having heard will live. (26) "For even as the Father has life in Himself, so He gave also to the Son to be having life in Himself. (27) "And He gave also to Him authority to be making judgment, because He is [the] Son of Humanity. (28) "Stop marveling at this, because an hour is coming in which all those in the tombs will hear His voice, (29) and they will come forth: the ones having done the good [things] into a resurrection of life, but the ones having practiced the wicked [things] into a resurrection of judgment. (30) "_I_ am not able to be doing anything of Myself. Just as I hear I judge, and My judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My will _but_ the will of the Father having sent Me. (31) "If I testify concerning Myself, My testimony is not true. (32) "Another is the One testifying concerning Me, and I know that the testimony is true which He testifies concerning Me. (33) "You* have sent to John, and he has testified to the truth. (34) "But _I_ do not receive testimony from a man, _but_ these things I say so that you* shall be saved. (35) "That one was the burning and shining lamp, but _you*_ were pleased to be very glad for an hour [or, for a while] in his light. (36) "But _I_ have the testimony greater than John's, for the works which the Father gave to Me that I should finish them, the works themselves which _I_ am doing, they testify concerning Me that the Father has sent Me. (37) "And the Father having sent Me, [He] Himself has testified concerning Me. Neither have you* heard His voice at any time nor have you* seen His form. (38) And you* [do] not have His word remaining in you*, because whom that One sent, this One you* do not believe. (39) "You* search the Scriptures, because you* think in them to be having eternal life, and these they are which testify concerning Me. (40) "And you* are not willing to come to Me so that you* shall have life. (41) "I do not receive glory from people. (42) "_But_ I have known you*, that you* do not have the love of God in yourselves. (43) "_I_ have come in the Name of My Father, and you* do not receive Me. If another comes in his own name, that one you* will receive. (44) "How are _you*_ able to believe, while receiving glory from one another, and the glory that [is] from God alone you* do not seek? (45) "Stop thinking that _I_ will accuse you* before the Father; the one accusing you* is Moses, in whom you* have hoped [or, have trusted in]. (46) "For if you* were believing Moses, you* would have been believing Me, for that one wrote concerning Me. (47) "But if the writings of that one you* do not believe, how will you* believe My sayings?"

You will note the reference windows often include more than one translation of the Bible. The reason is to strive to gain the best possible understanding of the original Hebrew and Greek. Since we don't speak those languages, we rely on those who have come before and made the effort to translate those texts into English for us. Considering several translations gives the benefit of the understanding of several translation committees or individuals.
