Luke 2:40-52 ALT
(40) And the young Child was growing and was being strengthened in spirit, being filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was upon Him. (41) And His parents were traveling yearly to Jerusalem to the feast of the Passover. (42) And when He became twelve years old, they having gone up to Jerusalem, according to the custom of the feast, (43) and having completed the days, in their returning, the Child Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, and Joseph and His mother did not know [it]. (44) But having supposed Him to be among the group of travelers, they went a day's journey and were looking for Him among their relatives and among their acquaintances. (45) And not having found Him, they returned to Jerusalem seeking Him. (46) And it happened, after three days, they found Him in the temple, sitting in [the] middle of the teachers, both listening to them and questioning them. (47) But all the ones hearing Him were themselves being astonished at His understanding and His answers. (48) And having seen Him, they were amazed. And His mother said to Him, "Child, why did You [treat] us in this way? Listen! Your father and I, being deeply distressed, were seeking You." (49) And He said to them, "Why [is it] that you* were seeking Me? Did you* not know that it is necessary [for] Me to be [occupied] in the [things] of My Father?" (50) And they did not understand the saying which He spoke to them. (51) And He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and He was being subjected to them. And His mother was treasuring all these things in her heart. (52) And Jesus kept advancing in wisdom and in stature, and in favor with God and people.

Luke 2:40-52 NWT
40 And the young child continued growing and getting strong, being filled with wisdom, and God’s favor continued upon him. 41 Now his parents were accustomed to go from year to year to Jerusalem for the festival of the passover. 42 And when he became twelve years old, they went up according to the custom of the festival 43 and completed the days. But when they were returning, the boy Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem, and his parents did not notice it. 44 Assuming that he was in the company traveling together, they covered a day’s distance and then began to hunt him up among the relatives and acquaintances. 45 But, not finding him, they returned to Jerusalem, making a diligent search for him. 46 Well, after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers and listening to them and questioning them. 47 But all those listening to him were in constant amazement at his understanding and his answers. 48 Now when they saw him they were astounded, and his mother said to him: "Child, why did you treat us this way? Here your father and I in mental distress have been looking for you." 49 But he said to them: "Why did you have to go looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in the [house] of my Father?" 50 However, they did not grasp the saying that he spoke to them. 51 And he went down with them and came to Nazareth, and he continued subject to them. Also, his mother carefully kept all these sayings in her heart. 52 And Jesus went on progressing in wisdom and in physical growth and in favor with God and men.

Luke 2:40-52 CEV
(40) The child Jesus grew. He became strong and wise, and God blessed him. (41) Every year Jesus's parents went to Jerusalem for Passover. (42) And when Jesus was twelve years old, they all went there as usual for the celebration. (43) After Passover his parents left, but they did not know that Jesus had stayed on in the city. (44) They thought he was traveling with some other people, and they went a whole day before they started looking for him. (45) When they could not find him with their relatives and friends, they went back to Jerusalem and started looking for him there. (46) Three days later they found Jesus sitting in the temple, listening to the teachers and asking them questions. (47) Everyone who heard him was surprised at how much he knew and at the answers he gave. (48) When his parents found him, they were amazed. His mother said, "Son, why have you done this to us? Your father and I have been very worried, and we have been searching for you!" (49) Jesus answered, "Why did you have to look for me? Didn't you know that I would be in my Father's house?" (50) But they did not understand what he meant. (51) Jesus went back to Nazareth with his parents and obeyed them. His mother kept on thinking about all that had happened. (52) Jesus became wise, and he grew strong. God was pleased with him and so were the people.

You will note the reference windows often include more than one translation of the Bible. The reason is to strive to gain the best possible understanding of the original Hebrew and Greek. Since we don't speak those languages, we rely on those who have come before and made the effort to translate those texts into English for us. Considering several translations gives the benefit of the understanding of several translation committees or individuals.
