Matthew 24:21-28; New World Translation
..."for then there will be great tribulation such as has not occurred since the world's beginning until now, no, nor will occur again. 22 In fact, unless those days were cut short, no flesh would be saved; but on account of the chosen ones those days will be cut short. 23 Then if anyone says to YOU, 'Look! Here is the Christ,' or, 'There!' do not believe it. 24 For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will give great signs and wonders so as to mislead, if possible, even the chosen ones. 25 Look! I have forewarned YOU. 26 Therefore, if people say to YOU, 'Look! He is in the wilderness,' do not go out; 'Look! He is in the inner chambers,' do not believe it. 27 For just as the lightning comes out of eastern parts and shines over to western parts, so the presence of the Son of man will be. 28 Wherever the carcass is, there the eagles will be gathered together."

Please note about these verses: They explain how the tribulation now consuming our world will soon be ended by God; to prevent the destruction of the earth. (Rev 11:18) Jesus very specifically warns you not to listen to religious people. Because of that warning by Jesus against Religionists, you must be careful to listen only to him, which simply means reading Matthew, Mark, Luke and John over and over to familiarity with Jesus. The tribulation is awakening righteous people to their need for God in their life. Since all those  people  individuals are being led to Jesus by God's spirit; (John 6:44a) the light of truth is shining out of the Bible through the words of Christ, drawing all righteous people in all the earth to God. The remains or body of Christ being the teachings he left us, the righteous are gathered feeding on Jesus's teachings.
Those gathered to feed on the words of Christ are the survivors!

Matthew 24:21-28 CEV
This will be the worst time of suffering since the beginning of the world, and nothing this terrible will ever happen again. (22) If God doesn't make the time shorter, no one will be left alive. But because of God's chosen ones, he will make the time shorter. (23) Someone may say, "Here is the Messiah!" or "There he is!" But don't believe it. (24) False messiahs and false prophets will come and work great miracles and signs. They will even try to fool God's chosen ones. (25) But I have warned you ahead of time. (26) If you are told that the Messiah is out in the desert, don't go there! And if you are told that he is in some secret place, don't believe it! (27) The coming of the Son of Man will be like lightning that can be seen from east to west. (28) Where there is a corpse, there will always be (eagles gathered) buzzards.

Matthew 24:21-28; Bible in Basic English
(21) Because in those days there will be great sorrow, such as there has not been from the start of the world till now, or ever will be. (22) And if those days had not been made short there would have been no salvation for any, but because of the saints those days will be made short. (23) Then if any man says to you, See, here is the Christ, or, Here; do not put faith in him; (24) For there will come up false Christs, and false prophets, who will do great signs and wonders; so that if possible even the saints might be tricked. (25) See, I have made it clear to you before it comes about. (26) If, then, they say to you, See, he is in the waste land; go not out: See, he is in the inner rooms; put no faith in it. (27) Because as in a thunderstorm the bright light coming from the east is seen even in the west; so will be the coming of the Son of man. (28) Wherever the dead body is, there will the eagles come together.

Matthew 24:21-28; Young's Literal Translation
(21) for there shall be then great tribulation, such as was not from the beginning of the world till now, no, nor may be. (22) And if those days were not shortened, no flesh would have been saved; but because of the chosen, shall those days be shortened. (23) `Then if any one may say to you, Lo, here is the Christ! or here! ye may not believe; (24) for there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and they shall give great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, also the chosen. (25) Lo, I did tell you beforehand. (26) `If therefore they may say to you, Lo, in the wilderness he is, ye may not go forth; lo, in the inner chambers, ye may not believe; (27) for as the lightning doth come forth from the east, and doth appear unto the west, so shall be also the presence of the Son of Man; (28) for wherever the carcase may be, there shall the eagles be gathered together.
