Matthew 3:1-17 ALT (1) Now in those days John the Baptist [or, the Immerser, and throughout book] arrives, proclaiming in the wilderness of Judea, (2) and saying, "Be repenting, for the kingdom of the heavens has drawn near!" (3) For this is the [one] having been spoken of by Isaiah the prophet, saying, "A voice of [one] shouting in the wilderness, 'Prepare the way of [the] LORD  ( יהוה ); be making His paths straight!'" [Isaiah 40:3] (4) Now John himself was having his clothing [made] from camel's hair and a leather belt around his waist, and his food was locusts and wild honey. (5) Then Jerusalem and all Judea and all the surrounding region of the Jordan [River] were going out to him, (6) and they were being baptized [or, immersed, Gr. baptizo, and throughout book] in the Jordan by him, confessing their sins. (7) But having seen many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism [or, immersion, and throughout book], he said to them, "Brood of vipers! Who warned you* to flee from the coming wrath? (8) "Therefore, bear fruit worthy [fig., as evidence] of repentance. (9) "And you* should not presume to be saying within yourselves, 'We have Abraham [as our] father,' for I say to you* that God is able to raise children to Abraham out of these stones. (10) "But also already the axe is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore, every tree not bearing good fruit is cut down and is thrown into fire. (11) "_I_ indeed baptize you* in water [or, with water, and throughout book] to [or, because of] repentance. But the One coming after me is mightier [than] I, of whom I am not worthy to carry His sandals, _He_ will baptize you* in [the] Holy Spirit, (12) whose winnowing-shovel [is] in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor and will gather His wheat into the barn, but He will burn the chaff in unquenchable fire!" (13) Then Jesus arrives from Galilee at the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him. (14) But John tried preventing Him, saying, "_I_ have need to be baptized by You, and _You_ come to me?" (15) But answering, Jesus said to him, "Permit [it] now, for in this way it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness." Then he permits Him. (16) And having been baptized, Jesus went up immediately from the water. And look! The heavens were opened to Him, and he [i.e. John] saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming upon Him. (17) And listen! A voice [comes] out of the heavens, saying, "This is My Son-the Beloved-in whom I am well-pleased!" [Psa. 2:7 ; Gen. 22:2 ; Isa. 42:1]

Matthew 3:1-17 LITV (1) Now in those days John the Baptist came preaching in the deserted places of Judea, (2) and saying, Repent! For the kingdom of Heaven has drawn near. (3) For this is he spoken of by Isaiah the prophet, saying: "The voice of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare the way of the [LORD]! Make His paths straight!" [Isaiah 40:3] (4) And John himself had his clothing from hairs of a camel, and a belt of leather about his loin. And his food was locusts and wild honey. (5) Then Jerusalem and all Judea went out to him, and all the neighborhood of the Jordan, (6) and were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins. (7) But seeing many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, Offspring of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? (8) Therefore, bring forth fruits worthy of repentance. (9) And do not think to say within yourselves, We have a father, Abraham. For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones. (10) But already the axe is even laid at the root of the trees; therefore, any tree not bringing forth good fruit is cut off and is thrown into fire. (11) I indeed baptize you in water to repentance; but He who is coming after me is stronger than me, of whom I am not able to lift The sandals. He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit and fire, (12) whose fan is in His hand, and He will cleanse His floor and will gather His wheat into the storehouse. But He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire. (13) Then Jesus arrives from Galilee to the Jordan, to John, to be baptized by him. (14) But John restrained Him, saying, I have need to be baptized by You, and do You come to me? (15) But answering, Jesus said to him, Allow it now, for it is becoming to us this way to fulfill all righteousness. Then he allows Him. (16) And having been baptized, Jesus went up immediately from the water. And, behold! The heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God coming down as a dove, and coming upon Him. (17) And behold! A voice out of the heaven saying, This is My Son, the Beloved, in whom I have been delighting. [Psa. 2:7 ; Gen. 22:2 ; Isa. 42:1]

Matthew 3:1-17 NWT 3 In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, 2 saying: "repent, for the kingdom of the heavens has drawn near." 3 This, in fact, is the one spoken of through Isaiah the prophet in these words: "Listen! Someone is crying out in the wilderness, 'Prepare the way of Jehovah  ( יהוה ), you people! Make his roads straight.'" 4 But this very John had his clothing of camel's hair and a leather girdle around his loins; his food too was insect locusts and wild honey. 5 Then Jerusalem and all Judea and all the country around the Jordan made their way out to him, 6 and people were baptized by him in the Jordan River, openly confessing their sins. 7 When he caught sight of many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to the baptism, he said to them: "You offspring of vipers, who has intimated to you to flee from the coming wrath? 8 So then produce fruit that befits repentance; 9 and do not presume to say to yourselves, 'As a father we have Abraham.' For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones. 10 Already the ax is lying at the root of the trees; every tree, then, that does not produce fine fruit is to be cut down and thrown into the fire. 11 I, for my part, baptize you with water because of YOUR repentance; but the one coming after me is stronger than I am, whose sandals I am not fit to take off. That one will baptize you people with holy spirit and with fire. 12 His winnowing shovel is in his hand, and he will completely clean up his threshing floor, and will gather his wheat into the storehouse, but the chaff he will burn up with fire that cannot be put out." 13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, in order to be baptized by him. 14 But the latter tried to prevent him, saying: "I am the one needing to be baptized by you, and are you coming to me?" 15 In reply Jesus said to him: "Let it be, this time, for in that way it is suitable for us to carry out all that is righteous." Then he quit preventing him. 16 After being baptized Jesus immediately came up from the water; and, look! the heavens were opened up, and he saw descending like a dove God's spirit coming upon him. 17 Look! Also, there was a voice from the heavens that said: "This is my Son, the beloved, whom I have approved."

You will note the reference windows often include more than one translation of the Bible. The reason is to strive to gain the best possible understanding of the original Hebrew and Greek. Since we don't speak those languages, we rely on those who have come before and made the effort to translate those texts into English for us. Considering several translations gives the benefit of the understanding of several translation committees or individuals.
The Translations we quote are:
