Revelation 13:16-18 NWT
16 And it puts under compulsion all persons, the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free and the slaves, that they should give these a mark in their right hand or upon their forehead, 17 and that nobody might be able to buy or sell except a person having the mark, the name of the wild beast or the number of its name. 18 Here is where wisdom comes in: Let the one that has intelligence calculate the number of the wild beast, for it is a man's number; and its number is six hundred and sixty-six.

The mark for death is the number 6 and is the number of a man. The number 666 is just 6 three times to affirm completeness. Having the mark of the beast, the mark for destruction, is just those people looking without reservation to the teachings or doctrines of men to save them. [Mat 15:7-11; Col 2:20-23] They have joined a cult and are drinking the Kool-Aid of religious doctrine. People who are able to buy and sell and take full advantage of life in this old world system are those who have chosen to make doing those things (use of their right hand of power to conduct business and gain wealth) the most important thing in their life. It is thus the mark in their forehead. Those who have made the teachings of Christ the most important thing in their mind are marked in their forehead to gain life. [Eze 8:17-9:7]

Revelation 13:16-18 ASV
(16) And he causeth all, the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free and the bond, that there be given them a mark on their right hand, or upon their forehead; (17) and that no man should be able to buy or to sell, save he that hath the mark, even the name of the beast or the number of his name. (18) Here is wisdom. He that hath understanding, let him count the number of the beast; for it is the number of a man: and his number is Six hundred and sixty and six.

Revelation 13:16-18 CEV
(16) All people were forced to put a mark on their right hand or forehead. Whether they were powerful or weak, rich or poor, free people or slaves, (17) they all had to have this mark, or else they could not buy or sell anything. This mark stood for the name of the beast and for the number of its name. (18) You need wisdom to understand the number of the beast! But if you are smart enough, you can figure this out. Its number is six hundred sixty-six, and it stands for a person.

Revelation 13:16-18 GNB
(16) The beast forced all the people, small and great, rich and poor, slave and free, to have a mark placed on their right hands or on their foreheads. (17) No one could buy or sell without this mark, that is, the beast's name or the number that stands for the name. (18) This calls for wisdom. Whoever is intelligent can figure out the meaning of the number of the beast, because the number stands for the name of someone. Its number is 666.

You will note the reference windows often include more than one translation of the Bible. The reason is to strive to gain the best possible understanding of the original Hebrew and Greek. Since we don't speak those languages, we rely on those who have come before and made the effort to translate those texts into English for us. Considering several translations gives the benefit of the understanding of several translation committees or individuals.
The Translations we quote are:
