1 John 4:14-21 CEV
(14) God sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. We saw his Son and are now telling others about him.
(15) God stays one with everyone who openly says that Jesus is the Son of God. That's how we stay one with God
(16) and are sure that God loves us. God is love. If we keep on loving others, we will stay one in our hearts with God, and he will stay one with us.
(17) If we truly love others and live as Christ did in this world, we won't be worried about the day of judgment.
(18) A real love for others (as we try to help them) will chase those worries away. The thought of being punished is what makes us afraid. It shows that we have not really learned to love.
(19) We love because God loved us first.
(20) But if we say we love God and don't love each other, we are liars. We cannot see God. So how can we love God, if we don't love the people we can see?
(21) The commandment that God has given us is: "Love God and love each other!"
1 John 4:14-21 GNB
(14) And we have seen and tell others that the Father sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.
(15) If we declare that Jesus is the Son of God, we live in union with God and God lives in union with us.
(16) And we ourselves know and believe the love which God has for us. God is love, and those who live in love live in union with God and God lives in union with them.
(17) Love is made perfect in us in order that we may have courage on the Judgment Day; and we will have it because our life in this world is the same as Christ's.
(18) There is no fear in love; perfect love (sharing the words of Christ) drives out all fear. So then, love has not been made perfect in anyone who is afraid, because fear has to do with punishment.
(19) We love because God first loved us.
(20) If we say we love God, but hate others, we are liars. For we cannot love God, whom we have not seen, if we do not love others, whom we have seen.
(21) The command that Christ has given us is this: whoever loves God must love others also.
1 John 4:14-21 ESV
And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. (15) Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. (16) So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. (17) By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as he is so also are we in this world. (18) There is no fear in love, but perfect love (sharing the words of Christ) casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love. (19) We love because he first loved us. (20) If anyone says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. (21) And this commandment we have from him: whoever loves God must also love his brother.
1 John 4:14-21 NWT
14 In addition, we ourselves have beheld and are bearing witness that the Father has sent forth his Son as Savior of the world. 15 Whoever makes the confession that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, God remains in union with such one and he in union with God. 16 And we ourselves have come to know and have believed the love that God has in our case. God is love, and he that remains in love remains in union with God and God remains in union with him. 17 This is how love has been made perfect with us, that we may have freeness of speech in the day of judgment, because, just as that one is, so are we ourselves in this world. 18 There is no fear in love, but perfect love (sharing the words of Christ) throws fear outside, because fear exercises a restraint. Indeed, he that is under fear has not been made perfect in love. 19 As for us, we love, because he first loved us. 20 If anyone makes the statement: "I love God," and yet is hating his brother, he is a liar. For he who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot be loving God, whom he has not seen. 21 And this commandment we have from him, that the one who loves God should be loving his brother also.
1 John 4:14-21 Darby
And *we* have seen, and testify, that the Father has sent the Son as Saviour of the world. (15) Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. (16) And *we* have known and have believed the love which God has to us. God is love, and he that abides in love abides in God, and God in him.
(17) Herein has love been perfected with us that we may have boldness in the day of judgment, that even as *he* is, *we* also are in this world. (18) There is no fear in love, but perfect love (sharing the words of Christ) casts out fear; for fear has torment, and he that fears has not been made perfect in love. (19) *We* love because *he* has first loved us. (20) If any one say, I love God, and hate his brother, he is a liar: for he that loves not his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? (21) And this commandment have we from him, That he that loves God love also his brother.

You will note the reference windows often include more than one translation of the Bible. The reason is to strive to gain the best possible understanding of the original Hebrew and Greek. Since we don't speak those languages, we rely on those who have come before and made the effort to translate those texts into English for us. Considering several translations gives the benefit of the understanding of several translation committees or individuals.
The Translations we quote are:
ALT - Analytical Literal Translation
ASV - American Standard Version (by the American revision committee in 1897).
Darby - 1889 Darby Bible
DRB - 1899 Douay-Rheims Bible
BBE - 1965 Bible in Basic English
LITV - Literal Translation of the Holy Bible
KJV - King James Version
MKJV - Modern King James Version
NWT - New World Translation
Webster - 1833 Webster Bible
RV - Revised Version
