1 Samuel 2:12-17 BBE ...Now the sons of Eli were evil and good-for-nothing men, having no knowledge of the Lord (יהוה). (13) And the priests' way with the people was this: when any man made an offering, the priest's servant came while the flesh was being cooked, having in his hand a meat-hook with three teeth; (14) This he put into the pot, and everything which came up on the hook the priest took for himself. This they did in Shiloh to all the Israelites who came there. (15) And more than this, before the fat was burned, the priest's servant would come and say to the man who was making the offering, Give me some of the flesh to be cooked for the priest; he has no taste for meat cooked in water, but would have you give it uncooked. (16) And if the man said to him, First let the fat be burned, then take as much as you will; then the servant would say, No, you are to give it to me now, or I will take it by force. (17) And the sin of these young men was very great before the Lord; for they gave no honour to the Lord,s (יהוה) offerings.

Anything that the fork might bring up the priest would take for himself. That is the way they would do in Shi´loh to all the Israelites coming there. 15 Also, before ever they could make the fat smoke, an attendant of the priest came and said to the man sacrificing: “Do give meat to roast for the priest so that he may receive from you, not boiled meat, but raw.” 16 When the man would say to him: “Let them be sure to make the fat smoke first of all. Then take for yourself just whatever your soul may crave,” he actually said: “No, but you should give it now; and, if not, I shall have to take it by force!” 17 And the sin of the attendants came to be very great before Jehovah (יהוה); for the men treated the offering of Jehovah (יהוה) with disrespect.

(16) And if the man said to him, "Let them burn the fat first, and then take as much as you wish," he would say, "No, you must give it now, and if not, I will take it by force." (17) Thus the sin of the young men was very great in the sight of the LORD (יהוה), for the men treated the offering of the LORD (יהוה) with contempt.
1 Samuel 2:12-17 GNB ...The sons of Eli were scoundrels [good for nothing]. They paid no attention to the LORD (יהוה) (13) or to the regulations concerning what the priests could demand from the people. Instead, when someone was offering a sacrifice, the priest's servant would come with a three-pronged fork. While the meat was still cooking, (14) he would stick the fork into the cooking pot, and whatever the fork brought out belonged to the priest. All the Israelites who came to Shiloh to offer sacrifices were treated like this. (15) In addition, even before the fat was taken off and burned, the priest's servant would come and say to the one offering the sacrifice, "Give me some meat for the priest to roast; he won't accept boiled meat from you, only raw meat." (16) If the person answered, "Let us do what is right and burn the fat first; then take what you want," the priest's servant would say, "No! Give it to me now! If you don't, I will have to take it by force!" (17) This sin of the sons of Eli was extremely serious in the LORD (יהוה)'s sight, because they treated the offerings to the LORD (יהוה) with such disrespect.
