1 Samuel 6:1-13 GW The ark of the LORD ( יהוה ) had been in Philistine territory seven months (2) when the Philistines called for priests and people skilled in explaining omens. The Philistines asked, "What should we do with the ark of the LORD ( יהוה ) ? Tell us how to return it to its proper place." (3) The priests answered, "If you're returning the ark of the God of Israel, don't send it away empty, but by all means return it to its proper place with a guilt offering. Then you will be healed, and you will know why he would not turn his anger away from you." (4) The Philistines asked, "What kind of guilt offering should we give him?" The priests answered, "Five gold tumors and five gold mice for the five Philistine rulers because all of you and your rulers suffer from the same plague. (5) Make models of your tumors and your mice which are destroying the country, and give glory to the God of Israel. Maybe he will no longer be so hard on you, your gods, and your country. (6) Why should you be as stubborn as the Egyptians and their Pharaoh were? After he toyed with the Egyptians, didn't they send the Israelites on their way? (7) Now get a new cart ready for two dairy cows that have never been yoked. Hitch the cows to the cart. Take their calves away, and leave them in their stall. (8) Take the ark of the LORD ( יהוה ) , and put it on the cart. Put the gold objects which you're giving him as a guilt offering in a box beside the ark. Send the cart on its way, (9) but then watch where it goes. If it goes up the road to its own country toward Beth Shemesh, then this disaster is the LORD ( יהוה ) 'S doing. But if not, we'll know it wasn't his hand that struck us, but what happened to us was an accident." (10) The people did this. They took two dairy cows, hitched them to a cart, and shut the calves in the stall. (11) They put the ark of the LORD ( יהוה ) and the box containing the gold mice and the models of their hemorrhoids on the cart. (12) The cows went straight up the road to Beth Shemesh. Continually mooing, they stayed on the road and didn't turn right or left. The rulers of the Philistines followed them to the border of Beth Shemesh. (13) The people of Beth Shemesh were harvesting wheat in the valley. When they looked up and saw the ark, they were overjoyed.
1 Samuel 6:1-13 LITV And the ark of Jehovah ( יהוה ) was in the field of the Philistines seven months. (2) And the Philistines called for priests and for those divining, saying, What shall we do to the ark of Jehovah ( יהוה ) ? Let us know with what we shall send it to its place. (3) And they said, If you send away the ark of the God of Israel, you shall not send it away empty. For turning back you shall return a guilt offering back to Him. Then you shall be healed, and it shall be known to you why His hand has not turned away from you. (4) And they said, What shall be the guilt offering which we shall send back to Him? And they said, The number of the rulers of the Philistines, five golden hemorrhoids, and five golden mice. For one plague has been on all of you, and on your rulers. (5) And you shall make images of your hemorrhoids, and images of your mice that are corrupting the land, and shall give honor to the God of Israel. It may be that He will lighten His hand from off you and from off your gods, and from off your land. (6) And why do you harden your heart as the Egyptians and Pharaoh hardened their heart? When He dealt ruthlessly with them, did they not send them away? And they went. (7) And now, take and make one new cart, and two suckling cows, on which a yoke has never gone up. And you shall tie the cows to the cart, and cause their young ones to return home from them. (8) And you shall take the ark of Jehovah ( יהוה ) and put it on the cart, and the vessels of gold which you shall return to Him for a guilt offering. Put them in a coffer in its side and send it away; and let it go. (9) And watch; if it goes up by way of its own border, to Beth-shemesh, He has done this great evil to us. And if not, then we shall know that it is not His hand that touched us; it was an accident to us. (10) And the men did so. And they took two suckling cows and tied them to the cart. And they shut their young ones in the house. (11) And they placed the ark of Jehovah ( יהוה ) on the cart, and the coffer with the golden mice and the images of their hemorrhoids. (12) And the cows went straight in the way, on the way to Beth-shemesh. They went on one highway, going and lowing. And they did not turn to the right or to the left. And the rulers of the Philistines went after them to the border of Beth-shemesh. (13) And those of Beth-shemesh were reaping their wheat harvest in the valley. And they lifted up their eyes and saw the ark, and rejoiced to see it.
1 Samuel 6:1-13 ESV The ark of the LORD ( יהוה ) was in the country of the Philistines seven months. (2) And the Philistines called for the priests and the diviners and said, "What shall we do with the ark of the LORD ( יהוה ) ? Tell us with what we shall send it to its place." (3) They said, "If you send away the ark of the God of Israel, do not send it empty, but by all means return him a guilt offering. Then you will be healed, and it will be known to you why his hand does not turn away from you." (4) And they said, "What is the guilt offering that we shall return to him?" They answered, "Five golden tumors and five golden mice, according to the number of the LORD ( יהוה ) s of the Philistines, for the same plague was on all of you and on your LORD ( יהוה ) s. (5) So you must make images of your tumors and images of your mice that ravage the land, and give glory to the God of Israel. Perhaps he will lighten his hand from off you and your gods and your land. (6) Why should you harden your hearts as the Egyptians and Pharaoh hardened their hearts? After he had dealt severely with them, did they not send the people away, and they departed? (7) Now then, take and prepare a new cart and two milk cows on which there has never come a yoke, and yoke the cows to the cart, but take their calves home, away from them. (8) And take the ark of the LORD ( יהוה ) and place it on the cart and put in a box at its side the figures of gold, which you are returning to him as a guilt offering. Then send it off and let it go its way (9) and watch. If it goes up on the way to its own land, to Beth-shemesh, then it is he who has done us this great harm, but if not, then we shall know that it is not his hand that struck us; it happened to us by coincidence." (10) The men did so, and took two milk cows and yoked them to the cart and shut up their calves at home. (11) And they put the ark of the LORD ( יהוה ) on the cart and the box with the golden mice and the images of their tumors. (12) And the cows went straight in the direction of Beth-shemesh along one highway, lowing as they went. They turned neither to the right nor to the left, and the LORD ( יהוה ) s of the Philistines went after them as far as the border of Beth-shemesh. (13) Now the people of Beth-shemesh were reaping their wheat harvest in the valley. And when they lifted up their eyes and saw the ark, they rejoiced to see it.

You will note the reference windows often include more than one translation of the Bible. The reason is to strive to gain the best possible understanding of the original Hebrew and Greek. Since we don't speak those languages, we rely on those who have come before and made the effort to translate those texts into English for us. Considering several translations gives the benefit of the understanding of several translation committees or individuals.
