2 Peter 2:1-9 GNB
False prophets appeared in the past among the people, and in the same way false teachers will appear among you. They will bring in destructive, untrue doctrines, and will deny the Master who redeemed them, and so they will bring upon themselves sudden destruction. (2) Even so, many will follow their immoral ways; and because of what they do, others will speak evil of the Way of truth. (3) In their greed these false teachers will make a profit out of telling you made-up stories. For a long time now their Judge has been ready, and their Destroyer has been wide awake! (4) God did not spare the angels who sinned, but threw them into hell, where they are kept chained in darkness, waiting for the Day of Judgment. (5) God did not spare the ancient world, but brought the flood on the world of godless people; the only ones he saved were Noah, who preached righteousness, and seven other people. (6) God condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, destroying them with fire, and made them an example of what will happen to the godless. (7) He rescued Lot, a good man, who was distressed by the immoral conduct of lawless people. (8) That good man lived among them, and day after day he suffered agony as he saw and heard their evil actions. (9) And so the Lord

2 However, there also came to be false prophets among the people, as there will also be false teachers among you. These very ones will quietly bring in destructive sects and will disown even the owner that bought them, bringing speedy destruction upon themselves. 2 Furthermore, many will follow their acts of loose conduct, and on account of these the way of the truth will be spoken of abusively. 3 Also, with covetousness they will exploit you with counterfeit words. But as for them, the judgment from of old is not moving slowly, and the destruction of them is not slumbering. 4 Certainly if God did not hold back from punishing the angels that sinned, but, by throwing them into Tartarus, delivered them to pits of dense darkness to be reserved for judgment; 5 and he did not hold back from punishing an ancient world, but kept Noah, a preacher of righteousness, safe with seven others when he brought a deluge upon a world of ungodly people; 6 and by reducing the cities Sodom and Gomorrah to ashes he condemned them, setting a pattern for ungodly persons of things to come; 7 and he delivered righteous Lot, who was greatly distressed by the indulgence of the law-defying people in loose conduct— 8 for that righteous man by what he saw and heard while dwelling among them from day to day was tormenting his righteous soul by reason of their lawless deeds— 9 Jehovah

] knows how to deliver people of godly devotion out of trial, but to reserve unrighteous people for the day of judgment to be cut off,

(1) But also false prophets came to be among the people, as also false teachers will be among you, who will secretly bring in destructive, heretical sects, and denying the Master having redeemed them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves.
(2) And many will follow their flagrant sexually immoral ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed.
(3) And in covetous desire [or, greed], with fabricated words, they will exploit you, for whom their judgment of old is not idle, and their destruction will not sleep.
(4) For if God did not spare angels having sinned, but having hurled [them] down to the deepest pit of gloom [Gr. tartarus], He delivered [them] to chains of thick darkness, being kept for judgment;
(5) and He did not spare the ancient world, but kept Noah, [the] eighth person [fig., with seven others], a preacher of righteousness, having brought a Flood upon the world of the ungodly,
(6) and having reduced [the] cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to ashes, He condemned [them] to destruction, having set [them as] an example to [the ones] being about to be acting in an ungodly way,
(7) and rescued righteous Lot, [who was] being distressed by the conduct in flagrant sexual immorality of the lawless [ones]
(8) (for by seeing and hearing, that righteous [man] living among them, day by day [his] righteous soul was being tormented with [their] unlawful works);
(9) [the] Lord
[ יהוה] knows [how] to be rescuing [the] godly out of temptation, but to be keeping [the] unrighteous being punished for [the] day of judgment,

(2) And many will follow their pernicious ways, and because of them the way of truth will be evil spoken of.
(3) And through covetousness they will use you for gain with well-turned words; for whom judgment from of old does not linger, and their destruction does not sleep.
(4) For if God did not spare sinning angels, but thrust them down into Tartarus, and delivered them into chains of darkness, being reserved to judgment.
(5) And He did not spare the old world, but saved Noah the eighth one, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly.
(6) And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, He condemned them with an overthrow, setting an example to men intending to live ungodly.
(7) And He delivered righteous Lot, oppressed with the lustful behavior of the lawless.
(8) For that righteous one living among them, in seeing and hearing, his righteous soul was tormented from day to day with their unlawful deeds.
