Please note verse 28 is pulled from these verses and moved lower on the page. That verse talks about men who lived at the time of Christ's first appearance. When Christ was resurrected to heaven, some of those men were given holy spirit to lead the newly born Christian congregation while Satan's (religious) world was trying to destroy it. Those men appointed by holy spirit could also raise the dead and heal the sick, to prove who they were, just like Jesus could do. That activity is all now recorded for us in the Bible, (including these words by Paul from Acts) and we today live by faith in Christ. We have omitted verse 28 (moved it below) because many people use it to try and indicate they have some special appointment from God and we should all follow them. (Take note of verse 30.) They will also say following them is the same as following Christ, of course. Protect yourself from being deceived: Following Christ is listening to Jesus by reading the Gospel accounts of his life and teachings! (Mat 12:46-50; Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) The teaching of Christ (contained in the Bible)
is our only inspired spiritual food for our day in time. Those first century spirit appointed men also proved they had holy spirit by using its power to keep God's worship pure. (Acts 5:1-11) No one had to "just trust" they were who they claimed to be.

Acts 20:26-27 & 29-30 GNB So I solemnly declare to you this very day: if any of you should be lost, I am not responsible. (27) For I have not held back from announcing to you the whole purpose of God... (29) I know that after I leave, fierce wolves will come among you, and they will not spare the flock. (30) The time will come when some men from your own group will tell lies to lead the believers away after them.

Acts 20:26-27 & 29-30 GW Therefore, I declare to you today that I am not responsible for the spiritual death of any of you. (27) I didn't avoid telling you the whole plan of God... (29) I know that fierce wolves will come to you after I leave, and they won't spare the flock. (30) Some of your own men will come forward and say things that distort the truth. They will do this to lure disciples into following them.

Acts 20:26-30 CEV I tell you today that I am no longer responsible for any of you! (27) I have told you everything God wants you to know... (29) I know that after I am gone, others will come like fierce wolves to attack you. (30) Some of your own people will tell lies to win over the Lord's followers.

Acts 20:26-30 ESV Therefore I testify to you this day that I am innocent of the blood of all of you, (27) for I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole counsel of God. (29) I know that after my departure fierce wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; (30) and from among your own selves will arise men speaking twisted things, to draw away the disciples after them.

Acts 20:28 GNB So keep watch over yourselves and over all the flock which the Holy Spirit has placed in your care. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he made his own through the blood of his Son.

Acts 20:28 GW Pay attention to yourselves and to the entire flock in which the Holy Spirit has placed you as bishops to be shepherds for God's church which he acquired with his own blood.

Acts 20:28 CEV Look after yourselves and everyone the Holy Spirit has placed in your care. Be like shepherds to God's church. It is the flock that he bought with the blood of his own Son.

Acts 20:28 ESV Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood.

You will note the reference windows often include more than one translation of the Bible. The reason is to strive to gain the best possible understanding of the original Hebrew and Greek. Since we don't speak those languages, we rely on those who have come before and made the effort to translate those texts into English for us. Considering several translations gives the benefit of the understanding of several translation committees or individuals.
