Acts 22:1-5 NWT
22 "Men, brothers and fathers, hear my defense to you now." 2 (Well, when they heard he was addressing them in the Hebrew language, they kept all the more silent, and he said:) 3 "I am a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but educated in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, instructed according to the strictness of the ancestral Law, being zealous for God just as all of you are this day. 4 And I persecuted this Way to the death, binding and handing over to prisons both men and women, 5 as both the high priest and all the assembly of older men can bear me witness. From them I also procured letters to the brothers in Damascus, and I was on my way to bring also those who were there bound to Jerusalem to be punished.

(1) "My friends and leaders of our nation, listen as I explain what happened!"
(2) When the crowd heard Paul speak to them in Aramaic [This is an error. Other translations render that Paul was speaking in Hebrew. The balance of these verses however, are translated very accurately.], they became even quieter. Then Paul said:
(3) I am a Jew, born and raised in the city of Tarsus in Cilicia. I was a student of Gamaliel and was taught to follow every single law of our ancestors. In fact, I was just as eager to obey God as any of you are today.
(4) I made trouble for everyone who followed the Lord's Way, and I even had some of them killed. I had others arrested and put in jail. I didn't care if they were men or women.
(5) The high priest and all the council members can tell you that this is true. They even gave me letters to the Jewish leaders in Damascus, so that I could arrest people there and bring them to Jerusalem to be punished.

(2) Now they having heard that in the Hebrew dialect he was speaking to them, they gave [him] even more silence. And he says,
(3) "_I_ indeed am a man, a Jew, having been born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but having been brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, having been educated according to the exactness of the ancestral Law, being a zealot for God, just as _you*_ all are today;
(4) [I] who persecuted this Way to death, binding and handing over to prisons both men and women,
(5) as also the high priest testifies to me, and all the council of the elders; from whom also having received letters to the brothers, I began traveling to Damascus to bring even the ones being there having been bound to Jerusalem, so that they should be punished.
