Acts 5:27-29 GW When they brought back the apostles, they made them stand in front of the council. The chief priest questioned them. (28) He said, "We gave you strict orders not to mention Jesus' name when you teach. Yet, you've filled Jerusalem with your teachings. You want to take revenge on us for putting that man to death." (29) Peter and the other apostles answered, "We must obey God rather than people.
Acts 5:27-29 CEV When the apostles were brought before the council, the high priest said to them, (28) "We told you plainly not to teach in the name of Jesus. But look what you have done! You have been teaching all over Jerusalem, and you are trying to blame us for his death." (29) Peter and the apostles replied: We don't obey people. We obey God.
Acts 5:27-31 ALT (27) So having brought them, they set [them] in the High Council [chambers]. And the high priest questioned them,
(28) saying, "We gave strict orders to you* not to be teaching in this name, did we not? And look! You* have filled Jerusalem with your* teaching, and you* intend to bring on us the blood of this Man!"
(29) But answering, Peter and the apostles said, "It is necessary to be obeying God rather than people!
(30) "The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom _you*_ murdered, having hanged [Him] on a tree [or, a cross].
(31) "This One God has exalted to His right hand [as] Prince and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.
Acts 5:27-31 LITV (27) And bringing them, they stood in the sanhedrin. And the high priest asked them,
(28) saying, Did we not command you by a command that you not teach in this name? And, behold, you have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine and intend to bring on us the blood of this man.
(29) But answering Peter and the apostles said, It is right to obey God rather than man.
(30) The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you seized, hanging Him on a tree.
(31) This One God has exalted as a Ruler and Savior to His right hand, to give to Israel repentance and remission of sins.
