The Ten Commandments
(A small portion of the Jewish Law Code.)

Deuteronomy 5:1-22 GNB Moses called together all the people of Israel and said to them, "People of Israel, listen to all the laws that I am giving you today. Learn them and be sure that you obey them. (2) At Mount Sinai the LORD  ( יהוה ) our God made a covenant, (3) not only with our fathers, but with all of us who are living today. (4) There on the mountain the LORD  ( יהוה ) spoke to you face-to-face from the fire. (5) I stood between you and the LORD  ( יהוה ) at that time to tell you what he said, because you were afraid of the fire and would not go up the mountain. "The LORD  ( יהוה ) said, (6) 'I am the LORD  ( יהוה ) your God, who rescued you from Egypt, where you were slaves. (7) " 'Worship no god but me. (8) " 'Do not make for yourselves images of anything in heaven or on earth or in the water under the earth. (9) Do not bow down to any idol or worship it, for I am the LORD  ( יהוה ) your God and I tolerate no rivals. I bring punishment on those who hate me and on their descendants down to the third and fourth generation. (10) But I show my love to thousands of generations of those who love me and obey my laws. (11) " 'Do not use my name for evil purposes, for I, the LORD  ( יהוה ) your God, will punish anyone who misuses my name. (12) " 'Observe the Sabbath and keep it holy, as I, the LORD  ( יהוה ) your God, have commanded you. (13) You have six days in which to do your work, (14) but the seventh day is a day of rest dedicated to me. On that day no one is to work---neither you, your children, your slaves, your animals, nor the foreigners who live in your country. Your slaves must rest just as you do. (15) Remember that you were slaves in Egypt, and that I, the LORD  ( יהוה ) your God, rescued you by my great power and strength. That is why I command you to observe the Sabbath. (16) " 'Respect your father and your mother, as I, the LORD  ( יהוה ) your God, command you, so that all may go well with you and so that you may live a long time in the land that I am giving you. (17) " 'Do not commit murder. (18) " 'Do not commit adultery. (19) " 'Do not steal. (20) " 'Do not accuse anyone falsely. (21) " 'Do not desire another man's wife; do not desire his house, his land, his slaves, his cattle, his donkeys, or anything else that he owns.' (22) "These are the commandments the LORD  ( יהוה ) gave to all of you when you were gathered at the mountain. When he spoke with a mighty voice from the fire and from the thick clouds, he gave these commandments and no others. Then he wrote them on two stone tablets and gave them to me.

Deuteronomy 5:1-22 LITV (1) And Moses called to all Israel and said to them, Hear, Israel, the statutes and the ordinances which I speak in your ears today. And you shall learn them, and shall take heed to do them. (2) Jehovah  ( יהוה ) your God cut a covenant with us in Horeb. (3) Jehovah  ( יהוה ) did not cut this covenant with our fathers, but with us, even us, these here today, all of us alive. (4) Jehovah  ( יהוה ) talked with you face to face in the mountain out of the midst of the fire. (5) I stood between Jehovah  ( יהוה ) and you at that time to declare to you the Word of Jehovah  ( יהוה ); for you were afraid from the face of the fire, and you did not go up into the mountain, when He spoke, saying: (6) I am Jehovah  ( יהוה ) your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage. (7) You shall have no other gods before Me. (8) You shall not make a graven image for you, any likeness of anything in the heavens above, or in the earth beneath, and in the waters from under the earth. (9) You shall not bow yourself to them nor serve them, for I, Jehovah  ( יהוה ) your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of fathers on sons, and on the third, and on the fourth generation of those that hate Me, (10) and doing kindness to thousands of those who love Me and keep My commandments. (11) You shall not take the name of Jehovah  ( יהוה ) your God in vain; for Jehovah  ( יהוה ) will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain. (12) Observe the sabbath day, to keep it holy, as Jehovah  ( יהוה ) your God has commanded you. (13) Six days you shall labor, and shall do all your work, (14) and the seventh day shall be a sabbath to Jehovah  ( יהוה ) your God. You shall not do any work, you nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male slave, nor your female slave, nor your ox, nor your ass, nor any of your livestock, nor your stranger that is within your gates; so that your male slave and your female slave may rest like yourself. (15) And remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and Jehovah your God brought you out from there by a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm. On account of this Jehovah  ( יהוה ) your God has commanded you to keep the sabbath day. (16) Honor your father and your mother, as Jehovah  ( יהוה ) your God has commanded you, so that your days may be prolonged, and so that it may be well with you in the land which Jehovah  ( יהוה ) your God is giving to you. (17) You shall not commit murder. (18) And you shall not commit adultery. (19) And you shall not steal. (20) And you shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. (21) You shall not lust after your neighbor's wife; nor shall you covet your neighbor's house, his field, nor his male slave, nor his female slave, his ox, nor his ass, nor anything which is your neighbor's. (22) Jehovah  ( יהוה ) spoke these Words to all your assembly on the Mount, out of the midst of the fire of the cloud and out of the thick darkness with a great voice. And He added no more; and He wrote them on two tablets of stone, and gave them to me.

Deuteronomy 5:1-22 ESV And Moses summoned all Israel and said to them, "Hear, O Israel, the statutes and the rules that I speak in your hearing today, and you shall learn them and be careful to do them. (2) The LORD  ( יהוה ) our God made a covenant with us in Horeb. (3) Not with our fathers did the LORD  ( יהוה ) make this covenant, but with us, who are all of us here alive today. (4) The LORD  ( יהוה ) spoke with you face to face at the mountain, out of the midst of the fire, (5) while I stood between the LORD  ( יהוה ) and you at that time, to declare to you the word of the LORD  ( יהוה ). For you were afraid because of the fire, and you did not go up into the mountain. He said: (6) "'I am the LORD  ( יהוה ) your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. (7) "'You shall have no other gods before me. (8) "'You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. (9) You shall not bow down to them or serve them; for I the LORD  ( יהוה ) your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, (10) but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments. (11) "'You shall not take the name of the LORD  ( יהוה ) your God in vain, for the LORD  ( יהוה ) will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain. (12) "'Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it holy, as the LORD  ( יהוה ) your God commanded you. (13) Six days you shall labor and do all your work, (14) but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD  ( יהוה ) your God. On it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter or your male servant or your female servant, or your ox or your donkey or any of your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates, that your male servant and your female servant may rest as well as you. (15) You shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the LORD  ( יהוה ) your God brought you out from there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. Therefore the LORD  ( יהוה ) your God commanded you to keep the Sabbath day. (16) "'Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD  ( יהוה ) your God commanded you, that your days may be long, and that it may go well with you in the land that the LORD  ( יהוה ) your God is giving you. (17) "'You shall not murder. (18) "'And you shall not commit adultery. (19) "'And you shall not steal. (20) "'And you shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. (21) "'And you shall not covet your neighbor's wife. And you shall not desire your neighbor's house, his field, or his male servant, or his female servant, his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor's.' (22) "These words the LORD  ( יהוה ) spoke to all your assembly at the mountain out of the midst of the fire, the cloud, and the thick darkness, with a loud voice; and he added no more. And he wrote them on two tablets of stone and gave them to me.

You will note the reference windows often include more than one translation of the Bible. The reason is to strive to gain the best possible understanding of the original Hebrew and Greek. Since we don't speak those languages, we rely on those who have come before and made the effort to translate those texts into English for us. Considering several translations gives the benefit of the understanding of several translation committees or individuals.
