Deuteronomy 9:1-6 GNB "Listen, people of Israel! Today you are about to cross the Jordan River and occupy the land belonging to nations greater and more powerful than you. Their cities are large, with walls that reach the sky. (2) The people themselves are tall and strong; they are giants, and you have heard it said that no one can stand against them. (3) But now you will see for yourselves that the LORD   ( ) your God will go ahead of you like a raging fire. He will defeat them as you advance, so that you will drive them out and destroy them quickly, as he promised. (4) "After the LORD  ( ) your God has driven them out for you, do not say to yourselves that he brought you in to possess this land because you deserved it. No, the LORD  ( ) is going to drive these people out for you because they are wicked. (5) It is not because you are good and do what is right that the LORD  ( ) is letting you take their land. He will drive them out because they are wicked and because he intends to keep the promise that he made to your ancestors, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. (6) You can be sure that the LORD  ( ) is not giving you this fertile land because you deserve it. No, you are a stubborn people.

Deuteronomy 9:1-6 LITV Hear, O Israel, you shall cross over the Jordan today, to go in to expel nations greater and mightier than yourself, cities great and walled up to the heavens; (2) a people great and tall, the sons of the Anakim, whom you know, and of whom you have heard it said, Who can stand before the sons of Anak? (3) And know today that Jehovah  ( ) your God is He who passes over before you as a consuming fire; He will destroy them, and He will bring them down before you; so you shall dispossess them and make them to perish quickly, as Jehovah  ( ) has spoken to you. (4) Do not say in your heart, when Jehovah  ( ) your God thrusts them out from before you, saying, Jehovah  ( ) has brought me in to possess this land for my righteousness. But say, Jehovah  ( ) dispossesses them from before you because of the wickedness of those nations. (5) It is not for your righteousness or for the uprightness of your heart that you go to possess their land. But Jehovah  ( ) your God is dispossessing them from before you because of the wickedness of these nations; and in order to establish the Word which Jehovah  ( ) has sworn to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob. (6) And you shall know that Jehovah  ( ) your God is not giving you this good land, to possess it, for your righteousness; for you are a stiffnecked people.

(2) Their people are tall and strong. They're descendants of Anak. You know all about them. You've also heard it said, "Who can oppose the descendants of Anak?" (3) Realize today that the LORD  ( ) your God is the one who is going ahead of you like a raging fire. He will wipe them out and will use you to crush their power. You will take possession of their land and will quickly destroy them as the LORD  ( ) promised you. (4) When the LORD  ( ) your God expels these people in front of you, don't say to yourselves, "Because we've been living right, the LORD  ( ) brought us here to take possession of this land." No, it's because these nations are so wicked that the LORD  ( ) is forcing them out of your way. (5) It's not because you've been living right or because you're so honest that you're entering to take possession of their land. It's because these people are so wicked that the LORD  ( ) your God is forcing them out of your way. It's also because the LORD  ( ) wants to confirm the promise he swore to your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. (6) So understand this: It's not because you've been living right that the LORD  ( ) your God is giving you this good land to possess. You are impossible to deal with!

Deuteronomy 9:1-6 NWT “Hear, O Israel, you are today crossing the Jordan to go in and dispossess nations greater and mightier than you, cities great and fortified to the heavens, 2 a people great and tall, the sons of An´a·kim, about whom you yourself have known and you yourself have heard it said, ‘Who can make a firm stand before the sons of A´nak?’ 3 And you well know today that Jehovah  ( ) your God is crossing before you. A consuming fire he is. He will annihilate them, and he himself will subdue them before you; and you must dispossess them and destroy them speedily, just as Jehovah  ( ) has spoken to you. 4 “Do not say in your heart when Jehovah  ( ) your God pushes them away from before you this, ‘It was for my own righteousness that Jehovah  ( ) has brought me in to take possession of this land,’ whereas it is for the wickedness of these nations that Jehovah  ( ) is driving them away from before you. 5 It is not for your righteousness or for the uprightness of your heart that you are going in to take possession of their land; in fact, it is for the wickedness of these nations that Jehovah  ( ) your God is driving them away from before you, and in order to carry out the word that Jehovah  ( ) swore to your forefathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. 6 And you must know that it is not for your righteousness that Jehovah  ( ) your God is giving you this good land to take possession of it; for you are a stiff-necked people.
