Esther 4:9-17 GW
So Hathach returned and told Esther what Mordecai had said. (10) Esther spoke to Hathach and commanded him to say to Mordecai, (11) "All the king's advisers and the people in the king's provinces know that no one approaches the king in the throne room without being summoned. By law that person must be put to death. Only if the king holds out the golden scepter to him will he live. I, myself, have not been summoned to enter the king's presence for 30 days now." (12) So Esther's servants told Mordecai what Esther said. (13) Mordecai sent this answer back to Esther, "Do not imagine that just because you are in the king's palace you will be any safer than all the rest of the Jews. (14) The fact is, even if you remain silent now, someone else will help and rescue the Jews, but you and your relatives will die. And who knows, you may have gained your royal position for a time like this." (15) Esther sent this reply back to Mordecai, (16) "Assemble all the Jews in Susa. Fast for me: Do not eat or drink at all for three entire days. My servants and I will also fast. After that, I will go to the king, even if it is against a royal decree. If I die, I die." (17) Mordecai did just as Esther had commanded him.

(9) Hathach went back to Esther and told her what Mordecai had said. (10) She answered, "Tell Mordecai (11) there is a law about going in to see the king, and all his officials and his people know about this law. Anyone who goes in to see the king without being invited by him will be put to death. The only way that anyone can be saved is for the king to hold out the gold scepter to that person. And it's been thirty days since he has asked for me." (12) When Mordecai was told what Esther had said, (13) he sent back this reply, "Don't think that you will escape being killed with the rest of the Jews, just because you live in the king's palace. (14) If you don't speak up now, we will somehow get help, but you and your family will be killed. It could be that you were made queen for a time like this!" (15) Esther sent a message to Mordecai, saying, (16) "Bring together all the Jews in Susa and tell them to go without eating for my sake! Don't eat or drink for three days and nights. My servant girls and I will do the same. Then I will go in to see the king, even if it means I must die." (17) Mordecai did everything Esther told him to do.

(10) Then Esther spoke to Hathach and commanded him to go to Mordecai and say, (11) "All the king's servants and the people of the king's provinces know that if any man or woman goes to the king inside the inner court without being called, there is but one law--to be put to death, except the one to whom the king holds out the golden scepter so that he may live. But as for me, I have not been called to come in to the king these thirty days." (12) And they told Mordecai what Esther had said. (13) Then Mordecai told them to reply to Esther, "Do not think to yourself that in the king's palace you will escape any more than all the other Jews. (14) For if you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance will rise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father's house will perish. And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?" (15) Then Esther told them to reply to Mordecai, (16) "Go, gather all the Jews to be found in Susa, and hold a fast on my behalf, and do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my young women will also fast as you do. Then I will go to the king, though it is against the law, and if I perish, I perish." (17) Mordecai then went away and did everything as Esther had ordered him.

9 Hathach now came in and told Esther Mordecais words. 10 Then Esther said to Hathach and commanded him concerning Mordecai: 11 'All the king's servants and the people of the king's jurisdictional districts are aware that, as regards any man or woman that comes in to the king at the inner courtyard who is not called, his one law is to have [him] put to death; only in case the king holds out to him the golden scepter, he will also certainly stay alive. As for me, I have not been called to come in to the king now for thirty days." 12 And they proceeded to tell Mordecai the words of Esther. 13 Then Mordecai said to reply to Esther: "Do not imagine within your own soul that the king's household will escape any more than all the other Jews. 14 For if you are altogether silent at this time, relief and deliverance themselves will stand up for the Jews from another place; but as for you and your father's house, you people will perish. And who is there knowing whether it is for a time like this that you have attained to royal dignity?" 15 Accordingly Esther said to reply to Mordecai: 16 "Go, gather all the Jews that are to be found in Shushan and fast in my behalf and neither eat nor drink for three days, night and day. I too with my young women, I shall fast likewise, and upon that I shall come in to the king, which is not according to the law; and in case I must perish, I must perish." 17 At this Mordecai passed along and proceeded to do according to all that Esther had laid in command upon him.
