Ezekiel 1:1-28 CEV . . .I am Ezekiel--a priest and the son of Buzi. Five years after King Jehoiachin of Judah had been led away as a prisoner to Babylonia, I was living near the Chebar River among those who had been taken there with him. Then on the fifth day of the fourth month of the thirtieth year, the heavens suddenly opened. The LORD  (יהוה) placed his hand upon me and showed me some visions. (2) (SEE 1:1) (3) (SEE 1:1) (4) I saw a windstorm blowing in from the north. Lightning flashed from a huge cloud and lit up the whole sky with a dazzling brightness. The fiery center of the cloud was as shiny as polished metal, (5) and in that center I saw what looked like four living creatures. They were somewhat like humans, (6) except that each one had four faces and four wings. (7) Their legs were straight, but their feet looked like the hoofs of calves and sparkled like bronze. (8) Under each of their wings, these creatures had a human hand. (9) The four creatures were standing back to back with the tips of their wings touching. They moved together in every direction, without turning their bodies. (10) Each creature had the face of a human in front, the face of a lion on the right side, the face of a bull on the left, and the face of an eagle in back. (11) Two wings of each creature were spread out and touched the wings of the creatures on either side. The other two wings of each creature were folded against its body. (12) Wherever the four living creatures went, they moved together without turning their bodies, because each creature faced straight ahead. (13) The creatures were glowing like hot coals, and I saw something like a flaming torch moving back and forth among them. Lightning flashed from the torch every time its flame blazed up. (14) The creatures themselves moved as quickly as sparks jumping from a fire. (15) I then noticed that on the ground beside each of the four living creatures was a wheel, (16) shining like chrysolite. Each wheel was exactly the same and had a second wheel that cut through the middle of it, (17) so that they could move in any direction without turning. (18) The rims of the wheels were large and had eyes all the way around them. (19) The creatures controlled when and where the wheels moved--the wheels went wherever the four creatures went and stopped whenever they stopped. Even when the creatures flew in the air, the wheels were beside them. (20) (SEE 1:19) (21) (SEE 1:19) (22) Above the living creatures, I saw something that was sparkling like ice, and it reminded me of a dome. Each creature had two of its wings stretched out toward the creatures on either side, with the other two wings folded against its body. (23) (SEE 1:22) (24) Whenever the creatures flew, their wings roared like an ocean or a large army or even the voice of God All-Powerful. And whenever the creatures stopped, they folded their wings against their bodies. (25) When the creatures stopped flapping their wings, I heard a sound coming from above the dome. (26) I then saw what looked like a throne made of sapphire, and sitting on the throne was a figure in the shape of a human. (27) From the waist up, it was glowing like metal in a hot furnace, and from the waist down it looked like the flames of a fire. The figure was surrounded by a bright light, (28) as colorful as a rainbow that appears after a storm. I realized I was seeing the brightness of the LORD  (יהוה)'s glory! So I bowed with my face to the ground, and just then I heard a voice speaking to me.

Ezekiel 1:1-28 GNB . . .On the fifth day of the fourth month of the thirtieth year, I, Ezekiel the priest, son of Buzi, was living with the Jewish exiles by the Chebar River in Babylonia. The sky opened, and I saw a vision of God. (2) (It was the fifth year since King Jehoiachin had been taken into exile.) (3) There in Babylonia beside the Chebar River, I heard the LORD  (יהוה) speak to me, and I felt his power. (4) I looked up and saw a windstorm coming from the north. Lightning was flashing from a huge cloud, and the sky around it was glowing. Where the lightning was flashing, something shone like bronze. (5) At the center of the storm I saw what looked like four living creatures in human form, (6) but each of them had four faces and four wings. (7) Their legs were straight, and they had hoofs like those of a bull. They shone like polished bronze. (8) In addition to their four faces and four wings, they each had four human hands, one under each wing. (9) Two wings of each creature were spread out so that the creatures formed a square, with their wing tips touching. When they moved, they moved as a group without turning their bodies. (10) Each living creature had four different faces: a human face in front, a lion's face at the right, a bull's face at the left, and an eagle's face at the back. (11) Two wings of each creature were raised so that they touched the tips of the wings of the creatures next to it, and their other two wings were folded against their bodies. (12) Each creature faced all four directions, and so the group could go wherever they wished, without having to turn. (13) Among the creatures there was something that looked like a blazing torch, constantly moving. The fire would blaze up and shoot out flashes of lightning. (14) The creatures themselves darted back and forth with the speed of lightning. (15) As I was looking at the four creatures I saw four wheels touching the ground, one beside each of them. (16) All four wheels were alike; each one shone like a precious stone, and each had another wheel intersecting it at right angles, (17) so that the wheels could move in any of the four directions. (18) The rims of the wheels were covered with eyes. (19) Whenever the creatures moved, the wheels moved with them, and if the creatures rose up from the earth, so did the wheels. (20) The creatures went wherever they wished, and the wheels did exactly what the creatures did, because the creatures controlled them. (21) So every time the creatures moved or stopped or rose in the air, the wheels did exactly the same. (22) Above the heads of the creatures there was something that looked like a dome made of dazzling crystal. (23) There under the dome stood the creatures, each stretching out two wings toward the ones next to it and covering its body with the other two wings. (24) I heard the noise their wings made in flight; it sounded like the roar of the sea, like the noise of a huge army, like the voice of Almighty God. When they stopped flying, they folded their wings, (25) but there was still a sound coming from above the dome over their heads. (26) Above the dome there was something that looked like a throne made of sapphire, and sitting on the throne was a figure that looked like a human being. (27) The figure seemed to be shining like bronze in the middle of a fire. It shone all over with a bright light (28) that had in it all the colors of the rainbow. This was the dazzling light which shows the presence of the LORD  (יהוה). When I saw this, I fell face downward on the ground. Then I heard a voice

Ezekiel 1:1-28 LITV . . .And it happened in the thirtieth year, in the fourth month, in the fifth of the month, as I was among the captives by the river Chebar, the heavens were opened, and I saw visions of God. (2) On the fifth of the month, the fifth year of the captivity of Jehoiachin the king, (3) coming the Word of Jehovah  (יהוה) became known to Ezekiel, the son of Buzi, the priest, in the land of the Chaldeans, by the river Chebar. And there the hand of Jehovah  (יהוה) was on him. (4) And I looked, and behold, a windstorm came out of the north, a great cloud, and a fire flashing itself, and a brightness to it all around. And out of its midst, like the color of polished bronze it came, out of the midst of the fire. (5) Also from its midst came the likeness of four living creatures. And this was how they looked: they had the likeness of a man, (6) and four faces were to each, and four wings to each of them, (7) and their feet were straight feet, and the sole of their feet like the sole of a calf's foot. And they sparkled like the color of burnished bronze. (8) And the hands of a man extended from under their wings on their four sides. And their faces and their wings were to the four of them, (9) joining each one to the other by their wings. They did not turn in their going, each one went toward the front of their face. (10) And the likeness of their faces: the face of a man, and the face of a lion, on the right side to the four of them; and the face of an ox on the left to the four of them, and the face of an eagle to the four of them. (11) So their faces were. And their wings were spread upward, to each, the two wings were joined, and two wings of each covering their bodies. (12) And each went toward the front of their faces. To where the spirit was to go, there they went; they did not turn in their going. (13) And the likeness of the living creatures: they appeared like coals of burning fire, like the appearance of torches; it was continually circling among the living creatures. And the fire was bright, and out of the fire went forth lightning. (14) And the living creatures kept running and returning, like the appearance of a flash of lightning. (15) And I looked at the living creatures, and, behold, one wheel was on the earth beside the living creatures, with the four of its faces. (16) The appearance of the wheels and their workmanship was like the color of beryl; and the one likeness was to the four of them. And their appearance and their workmanship was like the wheel in the middle of the wheel. (17) They went on the four of their sides in their going, they did not turn in their going. (18) And also their rims were high to them, even awesome to them. And their rims were full of eyes all around the four of them. (19) And in the going of the living creatures the wheels went beside them. And in the lifting up of the living creatures from on the earth, the wheels were lifted up. (20) There where the spirit was to go, there they went; there their spirit was to go, and the wheels were lifted up along with them. For the spirit of the living creature was in the wheels. (21) In their going, these went; and in their standing still, these stood still. And in their being lifted up from the earth, the wheels were lifted up along with them. For the spirit of the living creature was in the wheels. (22) And a likeness was over the heads of the living creature, an expanse like the color of awesome crystal, stretched out over their heads from above. (23) And under the expanse their wings were straight, the one toward the other, to each, two wings covering on this side, and to each two covering on that side of their bodies. (24) And I heard the sound of their wings like the sound of great waters, like the voice of the Almighty. In their going was the sound of tumult, like the sound of an army. In their standing still, they let down their wings. (25) And there was a voice from the expanse that was over their heads. In their standing still, they let down their wings. (26) And from above the expanse that was over their heads was an appearance like a stone of lapis lazuli azure blue, the likeness of a throne. And on the likeness of the throne was a likeness in appearance like a man on it from above. (27) And I saw Him, like the color of polished bronze, looking like fire within it all around. From the appearance of His loins and upward, and from the appearance of His loins and downward, I saw Him looking like fire; and brightness to it all around. (28) As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of the rain, so appeared the brightness all around. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of Jehovah  (יהוה). And I saw, and I fell on my face, and I heard a voice of One speaking.
