The focus of Jacob's life from his birth was in seeking יהוה's blessing. His being renamed Israel personally by God conferred and confirmed God's blessing upon Jacob's efforts! Though about 90 years old and yet without the promised heir, Israel's new name, from that time forward called by all his neighbors, meant "Father of Nations."

Genesis 25:24-27 CEV . . .When Rebekah gave birth, (25) the first baby was covered with red hair, so he was named Esau. (26) The second baby grabbed on to his brother's heel, so they named him Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when they were born. (27) As Jacob and Esau grew older, Esau liked the outdoors and became a good hunter, while Jacob settled down and became a shepherd.

Genesis 25:24-27 GW . . .When the time came for her to give birth, she had twins. (25) The first one born was red. His whole body was covered with hair, so they named him Esau [Hairy]. (26) Afterwards, his brother was born with his hand holding on to Esau's heel, and so he was named Jacob [Heel]. Isaac was 60 years old when they were born. (27) They grew up. Esau became an expert hunter, an outdoorsman. Jacob remained a quiet man, staying around the tents.

Genesis 25:24-27 GNB . . .The time came for her to give birth, and she had twin sons. (25) The first one was reddish, and his skin was like a hairy robe, so he was named Esau. (26) The second one was born holding on tightly to the heel of Esau, so he was named Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when they were born. (27) The boys grew up, and Esau became a skilled hunter, a man who loved the outdoors, but Jacob was a quiet man who stayed at home.

Genesis 25:24-26 KJV . . .And when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb. (25) And the first came out red, all over like an hairy garment; and they called his name Esau. (26) And after that came his brother out, and his hand took hold on Esau's heel; and his name was called Jacob: and Isaac was threescore years old when she bare them.

You will note the reference windows often include more than one translation of the Bible. The reason is to strive to gain the best possible understanding of the original Hebrew and Greek. Since we don't speak those languages, we rely on those who have come before and made the effort to translate those texts into English for us. Considering several translations gives the benefit of the understanding of several translation committees or individuals.
