13 In faith all these died, although they did not get the [fulfillment of the] promises, but they saw them afar off and welcomed them and publicly declared that they were strangers and temporary residents in the land.

(13) All these died according to faith, not having received the promises, _but_ having seen them from a distance and having welcomed [them], and having confessed that they are strangers and sojourners on the earth.

(13) It was in faith that all these persons died. They did not receive the things God had promised, but from a long way off they saw them and welcomed them, and admitted openly that they were foreigners and refugees on earth.
