All religious people, all anxious to render their judgment over who is pleasing God and who is rejected by him, should be quaking with fear and repent.
Hosea 10:4-8 GNB They utter empty words and make false promises and useless treaties. (Due to their judgment:) Justice has become injustice, growing like poisonous weeds in a plowed field. (5) The people who live in the city of Samaria will be afraid and will mourn the loss of the gold bull at Bethaven. They and the priests who serve the idol will weep over it. They will wail when it is stripped of its golden splendor. (6) The idol will be carried off to Assyria as tribute to the great emperor. The people of Israel will be disgraced and put to shame because of the advice they followed. (7) Their king will be carried off, like a chip of wood on water. (8) The hilltop shrines of Aven, where the people of Israel worship idols, will be destroyed. Thorns and weeds will grow up over their altars. The people will call out to the mountains, "Hide us!" and to the hills, "Cover us!"

Thorn and thistle shall grow up on their altars, and they shall say to the mountains, "Cover us," and to the hills, "Fall on us."

Hosea 10:4-8 NWT 4 “They speak words, making false oaths, concluding a covenant; and judgment has sprouted like a poisonous plant in the furrows of the open field. 5 For the calf [idol] of Beth-a´ven the residents of Sa·mar´i·a will get frightened; for over it its people will certainly mourn, as well as its foreign-god priests [who] used to be joyful over it, on account of its glory, because it will have gone into exile away from it. 6 Even it someone will bring to As·syr´i·a itself as a gift to a great king. Shame is what E´phra·im himself will get, and Israel will be ashamed of its counsel. 7 Sa·mar´i·a [and] her king will certainly be silenced, like a snapped-off twig on the surface of waters. 8 And the high places of [Beth-]a´ven, the sin of Israel, will actually be annihilated. Thorns and thistles themselves will come up upon their altars. And people will in fact say to the mountains, ‘Cover us!’ and to the hills, ‘Fall over us!’
