Isaiah 59:14-21 GNB
Justice is driven away, and right cannot come near. Truth stumbles in the public square, and honesty finds no place there. (15) There is so little honesty that those who stop doing evil find themselves the victims of crime." The LORD has seen this, and he is displeased that there is no justice. (16) He is astonished to see that there is no one to help the oppressed. So he will use his own power to rescue them and to win the victory. (17) He will wear justice like a coat of armor and saving power like a helmet. He will clothe himself with the strong desire to set things right and to punish and avenge the wrongs that people suffer. (18) He will punish his enemies according to what they have done, even those who live in distant lands. (19) From east to west everyone will fear him and his great power. He will come like a rushing river, like a strong wind. (20) The LORD says to his people, "I will come to Jerusalem to defend you and to save all of you that turn from your sins. (21) And I make a covenant with you: I have given you my power and my teachings to be yours forever, and from now on you are to obey me and teach your children and your descendants to obey me for all time to come."

In all instances, "LORD" or "Jehovah" should be   יהוה .

Justice is turned back, and righteousness stands far away. Truth has fallen in the street, and honesty can't come in. (15) Truth is missing. Those who turn away from evil make themselves victims [of the wicked]. The LORD sees it, and he's angry because there's no justice. (16) He sees that there's no one to help. He's astounded that there's no one to intercede. So with his own power he wins a victory. His righteousness supports him. (17) He puts on righteousness like a coat of armor and a helmet of salvation on his head. He wears clothes of vengeance. He wraps himself with fury as a coat. (18) He will pay them back according to their deeds. He will pay back his opponents with wrath and punish his enemies. He will pay back the people who live on the coastlands. (19) The people of the west will fear the name of the LORD. Those in the east will fear his glory. He will come like a rushing stream. The wind of the LORD pushes him. (20) "Then a Savior will come to Zion, to those in Jacob who turn from rebellion," declares the LORD. (21) "This is my promise to them," says the LORD. "My Spirit, who is on you, and my words that I put in your mouth will not leave you. They will be with your children and your grandchildren permanently," says the LORD.

(15) And the truth is lacking; and whoever turns from evil makes himself a prey. And Jehovah saw; and it was evil in His eyes, that there was no justice. (16) And He saw that there was no man, and He was astonished that there was no intercessor. And His own arm saved for Him; and His righteousness sustained Him. (17) For He put on righteousness like armor, and a helmet of salvation on His head. And He put on robes of vengeance as clothing; and He put on zeal like a mantle. (18) According to works, so He will repay; fury to His foes; recompense to His foes; He will repay recompense to the coasts. (19) So they shall fear Jehovah's name from the west, and His glory from the rising of the sun. When the foe comes like a flood, the Spirit of Jehovah shall cause him to flee. (20) And the Redeemer comes to Zion, and to those in Jacob who turn back from their rebellion, declares Jehovah. (21) As for Me, this is My covenant with them, says Jehovah: My Spirit who is on you, and My Words which I have put in your mouth, shall not depart out of your mouth, or out of the mouth of your seed, or out of the mouth of your seed's seed, from now on and forever, says Jehovah.

14 And justice was forced to move back, and righteousness itself kept standing simply far off. For truth has stumbled even in the public square, and what is straightforward is unable to enter. 15 And the truth proves to be missing, and anyone turning away from badness is being despoiled. And Jehovah got to see, and it was bad in his eyes that there was no justice. 16 And when he saw that there was no man, he began to show himself astonished that there was no one interposing. And his arm proceeded to save for him, and his own righteousness was the thing that supported him. 17 Then he put on righteousness as a coat of mail, and the helmet of salvation upon his head. Furthermore, he put on the garments of vengeance as raiment and enwrapped himself with zeal as if a sleeveless coat. 18 In accordance with the dealings he will reward correspondingly, rage to his adversaries, due treatment to his enemies. To the islands he will recompense due treatment. 19 And from the sunset they will begin to fear the name of Jehovah, and from the rising of the sun the glory of him, for he will come in like a distressing river, which the very spirit of Jehovah has driven along. 20 "And to Zion the Repurchaser will certainly come, and to those turning from transgression in Jacob," is the utterance of Jehovah. 21 "And as for me, this is my covenant with them," Jehovah has said. "My spirit that is upon you and my words that I have put in your mouth-they will not be removed from your mouth or from the mouth of your offspring or from the mouth of the offspring of your offspring," Jehovah has said, "from now on even to time indefinite."

Injustice is everywhere; justice seems far away. Truth is chased out of court; honesty is shoved aside. (15) Everyone tells lies; those who turn from crime end up ruined. When the LORD noticed that justice had disappeared, he became very displeased. (16) It disgusted him even more to learn that no one would do a thing about it. So with his own powerful arm, he won victories for truth. (17) Justice was the LORD's armor; saving power was his helmet; anger and revenge were his clothes. (18) Now the LORD will get furious and do to his enemies, both near and far, what they did to his people. (19) He will attack like a flood in a mighty windstorm. Nations in the west and the east will then honor and praise his wonderful name. (20) The LORD has promised to rescue the city of Zion and Jacob's descendants who turn from sin. (21) The LORD says: "My people, I promise to give you my Spirit and my message. These will be my gifts to you and your families forever. I, the LORD, have spoken."
