Job 33:16-30 GW he opens people's ears and terrifies them with warnings. (17) He warns them to turn away from doing wrong and to stop being arrogant. (18) He keeps their souls from the pit and their lives from crossing the River of Death. (19) In pain on their sickbeds, they are disciplined with endless aching in their bones (20) so that their whole being hates food and they lose their appetite for a delicious meal. (21) Their flesh becomes so thin that it can't be seen. Their bones, not seen before, will be exposed. (22) Their souls approach the pit. Their lives come close to those already dead. (23) "If they have a messenger for them, a spokesman, one in a thousand, to tell people what is right for them, (24) then he will have pity on them and say, 'Free them from going into the pit. I have found a ransom.' (25) Then their flesh will become softer than a child's. They will go back to the days of their youth. (26) They will pray to God, who will be pleased with them. They will see God's face and shout for joy as he restores their righteousness. (27) Each one sings in front of other people and says, 'I sinned and did wrong instead of what was right, and it did me no good. (28) The messenger has freed my soul from going into the pit, and my life will see the light.' (29) Truly, God does all this two or three times with people (30) to turn their souls away from the pit and to enlighten them with the light of life.

Job 33:16-30 GNB He makes them listen to what he says, and they are frightened at his warnings. (17) God speaks to make them stop their sinning and to save them from becoming proud. (18) He will not let them be destroyed; he saves them from death itself. (19) God corrects us by sending sickness and filling our bodies with pain. (20) Those who are sick lose their appetites, and even the finest food looks revolting. (21) Their bodies waste away to nothing; you can see all their bones; (22) they are about to go to the world of the dead. (23) Perhaps an angel may come to their aid--- one of God's thousands of angels, who remind us of our duty. (24) In mercy the angel will say, "Release them! They are not to go down to the world of the dead. Here is the ransom to set them free." (25) Their bodies will grow young and strong again [fresher than in youth]; (26) when they pray, God will answer; they will worship God with joy; God will set things right for them again. (27) Each one will say in public, "I have sinned. I have not done right, but God spared me. (28) He kept me from going to the world of the dead, and I am still alive." (29) God does all this again and again; (30) each one saves a person's life, and gives him the joy of living.

(19) He is chastened also with pain upon his bed, And with continual strife in his bones; (20) So that his life abhorreth bread, And his soul dainty food. (21) His flesh is consumed away, that it cannot be seen; And his bones that were not seen stick out. (22) Yea, his soul draweth near unto the pit, And his life to the destroyers. (23) If there be with him an angel, An interpreter, one among a thousand, To show unto man what is right for him; (24) Then God is gracious unto him, and saith, Deliver him from going down to the pit, I have found a ransom. (25) His flesh shall be fresher than a child's; He returneth to the days of his youth. (26) He prayeth unto God, and he is favorable unto him, So that he seeth his face with joy: And he restoreth unto man his righteousness. (27) He singeth before men, and saith, I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, And it profited me not: (28) He hath redeemed my soul from going into the pit, And my life shall behold the light. (29) Lo, all these things doth God work, Twice, yea thrice, with a man, (30) To bring back his soul from the pit, That he may be enlightened with the light of the living.

(21) His flesh is so wasted away that it cannot be seen, and his bones that were not seen stick out. (22) His soul draws near the pit, and his life to those who bring death. (23) If there be for him an angel, a mediator, one of the thousand, to declare to man what is right for him, (24) and he is merciful to him, and says, 'Deliver him from going down into the pit; I have found a ransom; (25) let his flesh become fresh with youth; let him return to the days of his youthful vigor'; (26) then man prays to God, and he accepts him; he sees his face with a shout of joy, and he restores to man his righteousness. (27) He sings before [other] men and says: 'I sinned and perverted what was right, and it was not repaid to me. (28) He has redeemed my soul from going down into the pit, and my life shall look upon the light.' (29) "Behold, God does all these things, twice, three times, with a man, (30) to bring back his soul from the pit, that he may be lighted with the light of life.

(18) He holds back his soul from the Pit, and his life from passing by the sword. (19) He is also chastened with pain on his bed, and enduring strife in his bones; (20) so that his life loathes bread, and his soul desirable food. (21) His flesh wastes away from his sight; and his bones laid bare, they that were not seen. (22) Yea, his soul draws near to the Pit, and his life to those causing dying. (23) If there is a messenger for him, a mediator, one among a thousand, to declare for man his uprightness, (24) then let Him be gracious to him and say, Deliver him from going down to the Pit, for I have found a ransom! (25) His flesh shall be fresher than in vigor; let him return to the days of his youth. (26) He will pray to God, and He will accept him, and he will see His face with exultation; for He will restore to man his righteousness. (27) He will observe to men and say, I have sinned, and I have perverted uprightness; and it was not equally repaid to me; (28) He has redeemed my soul from passing over into the Pit, and my life shall see the light. (29) Lo, all these God does two or three times with a man, (30) to bring back his soul from the Pit, to be illuminated with the light of the living.

Job 33:16-30 CEV to give us warnings. (17) God does this to make us turn from sin and pride (18) and to protect us from being swept away to the world of the dead. (19) Sometimes we are punished with a serious illness and aching joints. (20) Merely the thought of our favorite food makes our stomachs sick, (21) and we become so skinny that our bones stick out. (22) We feel death and the grave taking us in their grip. (23) One of a thousand angels then comes to our rescue by saying we are innocent. (24) The angel shows kindness, commanding death to release us, because the price was paid. (25) Our health is restored, we feel young again, (26) and we ask God to accept us. Then we joyfully worship God, and we are rewarded because we are innocent. (27) When that happens, we tell everyone, "I sinned and did wrong, but God forgave me (28) and rescued me from death! Now I will see the light." (29) God gives each of us chance after chance (30) to be saved from death and brought into the light that gives life.
