John 8:48-55 GW The Jews replied to Jesus, "Aren't we right when we say that you're a Samaritan and that you're possessed by a demon?" (49) Jesus answered, "I'm not possessed. I honor my Father, but you dishonor me. (50) I don't want my own glory. But there is someone who wants it, and he is the judge. (Mat 17:5) (51) I can guarantee this truth: Whoever obeys what I say will never see death." (52) The Jews told Jesus, "Now we know that you're possessed by a demon. Abraham died, and so did the prophets, but you say, 'Whoever does what I say will never taste death.' (53) Are you greater than our father Abraham, who died? The prophets have also died. Who do you think you are?" (54) Jesus said, "If I bring glory to myself, my glory is nothing. My Father is the one who gives me glory, and you say that he is your God. (55) Yet, you haven't known him. However, I know him. If I would say that I didn't know him, I would be a liar like all of you. But I do know him, and I do what he says.

John 8:48-55 GNB They asked Jesus, "Were we not right in saying that you are a Samaritan and have a demon in you?" (49) "I have no demon," Jesus answered. "I honor my Father, but you dishonor me. (50) I am not seeking honor for myself. But there is one who is seeking it and who judges in my favor. (Mat 17:5) (51) I am telling you the truth: whoever obeys my teaching will never die." (52) They said to him, "Now we know for sure that you have a demon! Abraham died, and the prophets died, yet you say that whoever obeys your teaching will never die. (53) Our father Abraham died; you do not claim to be greater than Abraham, do you? And the prophets also died. Who do you think you are?" (54) Jesus answered, "If I were to honor myself, that honor would be worth nothing. The one who honors me is my Father---the very one you say is your God. (55) You have never known him, but I know him. If I were to say that I do not know him, I would be a liar like you. But I do know him, and I obey his word.

John 8:48-55 ESV The Jews answered him, "Are we not right in saying that you are a Samaritan and have a demon?" (49) Jesus answered, "I do not have a demon, but I honor my Father, and you dishonor me. (50) Yet I do not seek my own glory; there is One who seeks it, and he is the judge. (Mat 17:5) (51) Truly, truly, I say to you, if anyone keeps my word, he will never see death." (52) The Jews said to him, "Now we know that you have a demon! Abraham died, as did the prophets, yet you say, 'If anyone keeps my word, he will never taste death.' (53) Are you greater than our father Abraham, who died? And the prophets died! Who do you make yourself out to be?" (54) Jesus answered, "If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father who glorifies me, of whom you say, 'He is our God.' (55) But you have not known him. I know him. If I were to say that I do not know him, I would be a liar like you, but I do know him and I keep his word.

John 8:48-55 CEV The people told Jesus, "We were right to say that you are a Samaritan and that you have a demon in you!" (49) Jesus answered, "I don't have a demon in me. I honor my Father, and you refuse to honor me. (50) I don't want honor for myself. But there is one who wants me to be honored, and he is also the one who judges. (Mat 17:5) (51) I tell you for certain that if you obey my words, you will never die." (52) Then the people said, "Now we are sure that you have a demon. Abraham is dead, and so are the prophets. How can you say that no one who obeys your words will ever die? (53) Are you greater than our father Abraham? He died, and so did the prophets. Who do you think you are?" (54) Jesus replied, "If I honored myself, it would mean nothing. My Father is the one who honors me. You claim that he is your God, (55) even though you don't really know him. If I said I didn't know him, I would be a liar, just like all of you. But I know him, and I do what he says.

You will note the reference windows often include more than one translation of the Bible. The reason is to strive to gain the best possible understanding of the original Hebrew and Greek. Since we don't speak those languages, we rely on those who have come before and made the effort to translate those texts into English for us. Considering several translations gives the benefit of the understanding of several translation committees or individuals.
