Mark 2:23-28 CEV
(23) One Sabbath Jesus and his disciples were walking through some wheat fields. His disciples were picking grains of wheat as they went along.
(24) Some Pharisees asked Jesus, "Why are your disciples picking grain on the Sabbath? They are not supposed to do that!"
(25) Jesus answered, "Haven't you read what David did when he and his followers were hungry and in need?
(26) It was during the time of Abiathar the high priest. David went into the house of God and ate the sacred loaves of bread that only priests are allowed to eat. He also gave some to his followers."
(27) Jesus finished by saying, "People were not made for the good of the Sabbath. The Sabbath was made for the good of people.
(28) So the Son of Man is Lord over the Sabbath."

23 Now it happened that he was proceeding through the grainfields on the sabbath, and his disciples started to make their way plucking the heads of grain. 24 So the Pharisees went saying to him: "Look here! Why are they doing on the sabbath what is not lawful?" 25 But he said to them: "Have you never once read what David did when he fell in need and got hungry, he and the men with him? 26 How he entered into the house of God, in the account about Abiathar the chief priest, and ate the loaves of presentation, which it is not lawful for anybody to eat except the priests, and he gave some also to the men who were with him?" 27 So he went on to say to them: "The sabbath came into existence for the sake of man, and not man for the sake of the sabbath; 28 hence the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath."

(26) "How he went into the house of God at the time of Abiathar the high priest and ate the loaves of bread of the presentation [fig., the consecrated bread], which it is not lawful to eat, except to the priests, and he gave also to the ones with him?" [cp. 1Sam 21:3-6; Exod 29:32-33]
(27) And He said to them, "The Sabbath came to be for the sake of humanity, not humanity for the sake of the Sabbath.
(28) "So then, the Son of Humanity is Lord even of the Sabbath."

(24) And the Pharisees said to him, Why are they doing what it is not right to do on the Sabbath?
(25) And he said to them, Have you no knowledge of what David did, when he had need and was without food, he, and those who were with him?
(26) How he went into the house of God when Abiathar was high priest, and took for food the holy bread, which only the priests may take, and gave it to those who were with him?
(27) And he said to them, The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath;
(28) So that the Son of man is lord even of the Sabbath.
