Matthew 15:1-9 CEV
(1) About this time some Pharisees and teachers of the Law of Moses came from Jerusalem. They asked Jesus,
(2) "Why don't your disciples obey what our ancestors taught us to do? They don't even wash their hands before they eat."
(3) Jesus answered: Why do you disobey God and follow your own teaching?
(4) Didn't God command you to respect your father and mother? Didn't he tell you to put to death all who curse their parents? [Exod 20:12; Deut 5:16; Exod 21:17]
(5) But you let people get by without helping their parents when they should. You let them say that what they have has been offered to God.
(6) Is this any way to show respect to your parents? You ignore God's commands in order to follow your own teaching.
(7) And you are nothing but show-offs! Isaiah the prophet was right when he wrote that God had said,
(8) "All of you praise me with your words, but you never really think about me.
(9) It is useless for you to worship me, when you teach rules made up by humans." [Isaiah 29:13, LXX]
Matthew 15:1-9 NWT
15 Then there came to Jesus from Jerusalem Pharisees and scribes, saying: 2 "Why is it your disciples overstep the tradition of the men of former times? For example, they do not wash their hands when about to eat a meal." 3 In reply he said to them: "Why is it you also overstep the commandment of God because of your tradition? 4 For example, God said, 'Honor your father and your mother'; and, 'Let him that reviles father or mother end up in death.' [Exod 20:12; Deut 5:16; Exod 21:17] 5 But you say, 'Whoever says to his father or mother: "Whatever I have by which you might get benefit from me is a gift dedicated to God," 6 he must not honor his father at all.' And so you have made the word of God invalid because of your tradition. 7 You hypocrites, Isaiah aptly prophesied about you, when he said, 8 'This people honors me with their lips, yet their heart is far removed from me. 9 It is in vain that they keep worshiping me, because they teach commands of men as doctrines.'" [Isaiah 29:13, LXX]
Matthew 15:1-9 ESV
(1) Then Pharisees and scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem and said,
(2) "Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat."
(3) He answered them, "And why do you break the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition?
(4) For God commanded, 'Honor your father and your mother,' and, 'Whoever reviles father or mother must surely die.' [Exod 20:12; Deut 5:16; Exod 21:17]
(5) But you say, 'If anyone tells his father or his mother, What you would have gained from me is given to God,
(6) he need not honor his father.' So for the sake of your tradition you have made void the word of God.
(7) You hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy of you, when he said:
(8) "'This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me;
(9) in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.'" [Isaiah 29:13, LXX]
Matthew 15:1-9 ALT
(1) Then scribes and Pharisees from Jerusalem come to Jesus, saying,
(2) "Why do Your disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? For they do not [ritually] wash their hands whenever they are eating bread."
(3) But answering, He said to them, "Why do _you*_ also transgress the commandment of God because of your* tradition?
(4) "For God commanded, saying, 'Be honoring your father and mother,' and, 'The one speaking evil of father or mother, let him come to the end [of his life], to [his] death.' [Exod 20:12; Deut 5:16; Exod 21:17]
(5) "But _you*_ say, 'Whoever says to father or mother, "[It is] an offering, whatever you should be benefited from me,"-'and by no means shall he [fig., then he has no need at all to] honor his father or his mother.'
(6) "And you* nullify [or, disregard] the commandment of God because of your* tradition.
(7) "Hypocrites! Correctly Isaiah prophesied concerning you*, saying,
(8) 'This people draws near to Me with their mouth [fig., speech] and honors Me with the lips [fig., words], but their heart is far distant from Me.
(9) 'But in vain [or, to no purpose] do they worship Me, teaching [as] teachings [or, doctrines], commandments of people.'" [Isaiah 29:13, LXX]

You will note the reference windows often include more than one translation of the Bible. The reason is to strive to gain the best possible understanding of the original Hebrew and Greek. Since we don't speak those languages, we rely on those who have come before and made the effort to translate those texts into English for us. Considering several translations gives the benefit of the understanding of several translation committees or individuals.
The Translations we quote are:
