(34) Now the Pharisees having heard that He silenced the Sadducees, were gathered together.
(35) And one of them, a lawyer, questioned, testing Him, and saying,
(36) "Teacher, which [is] the great commandment in the Law?"
(37) Then Jesus said to him, "'You will love the LORD ( יהוה ) your God with your whole heart [fig., your entire inner self] and with your whole soul and with your whole understanding.' [Deut 6:4,5]
(38) "This is [the] first and great commandment.
(39) "But a second [one is] similar to it, 'You will love your neighbor as yourself.' (Lev. 19:18)
(40) "On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets."
