Note: Jesus asked questions inviting people to talk and reason on what he taught. He seemed to feel people who didn't want to answer his question probably had no interest in truth. The scribes and Pharisees were the religious leaders of Jesus's day. They correspond with Religionists who raise themselves up over others with pomp and titles in our day. If you associate with an organization that has members elevated by titles such as father, elder, priest, pope, anointed one, rabbi [teacher] etc., you should carefully evaluate them in the light of these Bible verses.

Matthew 22:41-23:15 NWT
41 Now while the Pharisees were gathered together Jesus asked them: 42 “What do YOU think about the Christ? Whose son is he?” They said to him: “David’s.” 43 He said to them: “How, then, is it that David by inspiration calls him ‘Lord,’ saying, 44 ‘Jehovah said to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies beneath your feet”’? 45 If, therefore, David calls him ‘Lord,’ how is he his son?” 46 And nobody was able to say a word in reply to him, nor did anyone dare from that day on to question him any further.
23:1 Then Jesus spoke to the crowds and to his disciples, saying: 2 "The scribes and the Pharisees have seated themselves in the seat of Moses. (Ex 18:13)* 3 Therefore all the things they tell you, do and observe, but do not do according to their deeds, for they say but do not perform. 4 They bind up heavy loads and put them upon the shoulders of men, but they themselves are not willing to budge them with their finger. 5 All the works they do they do to be viewed by men; for they broaden the [scripture-containing] cases that they wear as safeguards, and enlarge the fringes [of their garments]. 6 They like the most prominent place at evening meals and the front seats in the synagogues, 7 and the greetings in the marketplaces and to be called Rabbi [teacher] by men. 8 But you, do not you be called Rabbi, for one is your teacher, whereas all you are brothers. 9 Moreover, do not call anyone your father on earth, for one is your Father, the heavenly One. 10 Neither be called 'leaders,' for your Leader is one, the Christ. 11 But the greatest one among you must be your minister. 12 Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted. 13 "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because you shut up the kingdom of the heavens before men; for you yourselves do not go in, neither do you permit those on their way in to go in. 14 -- 15 "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because you traverse sea and dry land to make one proselyte, and when he becomes one you make him a subject for Gehenna twice as much so as yourselves.

* Note regarding the reference to Ex 18:13 above: Moses was appointed by God as judge to the ancient Jewish nation. The scribes and Pharisees were a priestly community, not judges. Like modern religious leaders, however, that didn't stop them from setting themselves up as judges over people. Instead, they should have started directing individuals to listen to Jesus as God's Messiah, along with warning each person they are judging themselves by their response to Christ's words. (John 12:46‑50)

Matthew 22:41-23:15 ALT
(41) Now the Pharisees having been gathered together, Jesus questioned them, (42) saying, "What do youp think concerning the Christ? Whose Son is He?" They say to Him, "David's." (43) He says to them, "How then does David in [or, by] the Spirit call Him 'Lord,' saying, (44) 'The LORD said to my Lord, "Be sitting at My right hand, until I put Your enemies [as] a footstool for Your feet?"' [Psalm 110:1] (45) "So if David calls Him 'Lord,' how is He his Son?" (46) And no one was able to answer Him a word, nor dared anyone from that day to question Him any more.
(23:1) Then Jesus spoke to the crowds and to His disciples, (2) saying, "The scribes and the Pharisees [have] sat on the seat of Moses. (Ex 18:13)* (3) "Therefore, all [things], as many as they tell you to be observing, be observing and doing, but stop doing according to their works, for they say and do not do. (4) "For they bind together heavy and hard to carry burdens and lay [them] on the shoulders of the people, but they are not willing to move them with their finger. (5) "But all their works they do to be seen by the people, and they enlarge their phylacteries [i.e. small boxes containing Scripture verses], and they extend the fringes of their robes. (6) "They also affectionately love the first couches [fig., places of honor] at the banquets, and the first seats [fig., most important places] in the synagogues, (7) and the greetings in the market-places, and to be called, 'Rabbi, Rabbi,' by the people. (8) "But _you_ shall not be called 'Rabbi,' for One is your Master-the Christ, and _you_ are all brothers [and sisters]. (9) "And you shall not call [anyone] your father on the earth, for one is your Father, the [One] in the heavens. (10) "Neither shall you be called 'masters,' for one is your Master-the Christ. (11) "But the greatest of you will be your servant. (12) "And whoever will exalt himself, will be humbled; and whoever will humble himself, will be exalted. (13) "But how horrible it will be to you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you devour the houses of the widows, [fig., illegally cheat widows' out of their property] and in pretense [or, with a false show] are long [in] praying, because of this you will receive more severe judgment [or, condemnation]. (14) "How horrible it will be to you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you shut off the kingdom of the heavens before the people, for _you_ do not enter, nor do You allow the ones entering to enter. (15) "How horrible it will be to you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you travel over the sea and the dry land to make one proselyte [or, convert to Judaism], and whenever it happens, you make him twice as much a son of hell [Gr., gehenna] [as] you [are].

Matthew 22:42-23:15 LITV
(42) saying, What do you think about the Christ? Whose son is He? They say to Him, David's. (43) He said to them, Then how does David in Spirit call Him Lord, saying, (44) "The Lord said to my Lord, Sit off My right until I should put Your hostile ones as a footstool for Your feet?" LXX-Psa. 109:1; MT-Psa. 110:1 (45) Then if David calls Him Lord, how is He his son? (46) And no one was able to answer Him a word, nor did anyone dare from that day to question Him any more.
(23:1) Then Jesus spoke to the crowd and to His disciples, (2) saying, The scribes and the Pharisees have sat down on Moses' seat. (Ex 18:13)* (3) Then all things, whatever they tell you to keep, keep and do. But do not do according to their works, for they say, and do not do. (4) For they bind heavy and hard to bear burdens, and lay them on the shoulders of men, but they do not desire to move them with their finger. (5) And they do all their works to be seen by men. And they make their phylacteries broad and enlarge the borders of their robes. (6) And they love the first couch in the suppers, and the first seats in the synagogues, (7) and the greetings in the markets, and to be called by men, Rabbi, Rabbi. (8) But do not you be called Rabbi, for One is your Leader, the Christ, and you are all brothers. (9) And call no one your father on earth, for One is your Father, the One in Heaven. (10) Nor be called leaders, for One is your Leader, the Christ. (11) But the greater of you shall be your servant. (12) And whoever will exalt himself shall be humbled, and whoever will humble himself shall be exalted. (13) But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of Heaven before men; for you do not enter, nor do you allow those entering to go in. (14) Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour the houses of widows, and pray at length as a pretext. Because of this you will receive more abundant judgment. (15) Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you go about the sea and the dry land to make one proselyte; and when he has become so, you make him twofold more a son of Hell than yourselves.

You will note the reference windows often include more than one translation of the Bible. The reason is to strive to gain the best possible understanding of the original Hebrew and Greek. Since we don't speak those languages, we rely on those who have come before and made the effort to translate those texts into English for us. Considering several translations gives the benefit of the understanding of several translation committees or individuals.
The Translations we quote are:
