Matthew 5:43-6:18 NWT
. . ."You heard that it was said, 'You must love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' 44 However, I say to you: Continue to love your enemies and to pray for those persecuting you; 45 that you may prove yourselves sons of your Father who is in the heavens, since he makes his sun rise upon wicked people and good and makes it rain upon righteous people and unrighteous. 46 For if you love those loving you, what reward do you have? Are not also the tax collectors doing the same thing? 47 And if you greet your brothers only, what extraordinary thing are you doing? Are not also the people of the nations doing the same thing? 48 you must accordingly be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect. 6:1 "Take good care not to practice your righteousness in front of men in order to be observed by them; otherwise you will have no reward with your Father who is in the heavens. 2 Hence when you go making gifts of mercy, do not blow a trumpet ahead of you, just as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be glorified by men. Truly I say to you, They are having their reward in full. 3 But you, when making gifts of mercy, do not let your left hand know what your right is doing, 4 that your gifts of mercy may be in secret; then your Father who is looking on in secret will repay you. 5 "Also, when you pray, you must not be as the hypocrites; because they like to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the broad ways to be visible to men. Truly I say to you, They are having their reward in full. 6 You, however, when you pray, go into your private room and, after shutting your door, pray to your Father who is in secret; then your Father who looks on in secret will repay you. 7 But when praying, do not say the same things over and over again, just as the people of the nations do, for they imagine they will get a hearing for their use of many words. 8 So, do not make yourselves like them, for God your Father knows what things you are needing before ever you ask him. 9 "you must pray, then, this way: "'Our Father in the heavens, let your name be sanctified. 10 Let your kingdom come. Let your will take place, as in heaven, also upon earth. 11 Give us today our bread for this day; 12 and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And do not bring us into temptation, but deliver us from the wicked one.' 14 "For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you; 15 whereas if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. 16 "When you are fasting, stop becoming sad-faced like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Truly I say to you, They are having their reward in full. 17 But you, when fasting, grease your head and wash your face, 18 that you may appear to be fasting, not to men, but to your Father who is in secrecy; then your Father who is looking on in secrecy will repay you."
Matthew 5:43-6:18 GNB
(43) "You have heard that it was said, 'Love your friends, hate your enemies.'
(44) But now I tell you: love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
(45) so that you may become the children of your Father in heaven. For he makes his sun to shine on bad and good people alike, and gives rain to those who do good and to those who do evil.
(46) Why should God reward you if you love only the people who love you? Even the tax collectors do that!
(47) And if you speak only to your friends, have you done anything out of the ordinary? Even the pagans do that!
(48) You must be perfect---just as your Father in heaven is perfect.
Matthew 6:1-18 GNB
(1) "Make certain you do not perform your religious duties in public so that people will see what you do. If you do these things publicly, you will not have any reward from your Father in heaven.
(2) "So when you give something to a needy person, do not make a big show of it, as the hypocrites do in the houses of worship and on the streets. They do it so that people will praise them. I assure you, they have already been paid in full.
(3) But when you help a needy person, do it in such a way that even your closest friend will not know about it.
(4) Then it will be a private matter. And your Father, who sees what you do in private, will reward you.
(5) "When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites! They love to stand up and pray in the houses of worship and on the street corners, so that everyone will see them. I assure you, they have already been paid in full.
(6) But when you pray, go to your room, close the door, and pray to your Father, who is unseen. And your Father, who sees what you do in private, will reward you.
(7) "When you pray, do not use a lot of meaningless words, as the pagans do, who think that their gods will hear them because their prayers are long.
(8) Do not be like them. Your Father already knows what you need before you ask him.
(9) This, then, is how you should pray: 'Our Father in heaven: May your holy name be honored;
(10) may your Kingdom come; may your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
(11) Give us today the food we need.
(12) Forgive us the wrongs we have done, as we forgive the wrongs that others have done to us.
(13) Do not bring us to hard testing, but keep us safe from the Evil One.'
(14) "If you forgive others the wrongs they have done to you, your Father in heaven will also forgive you.
(15) But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive the wrongs you have done.
(16) "And when you fast, do not put on a sad face as the hypocrites do. They neglect their appearance so that everyone will see that they are fasting. I assure you, they have already been paid in full.
(17) When you go without food, wash your face and comb your hair,
(18) so that others cannot know that you are fasting---only your Father, who is unseen, will know. And your Father, who sees what you do in private, will reward you.
Matthew 5:43-6:18 CEV
(43) You have heard people say, "Love your neighbors and hate your enemies."
(44) But I tell you to love your enemies and pray for anyone who mistreats you.
(45) Then you will be acting like your Father in heaven. He makes the sun rise on both good and bad people. And he sends rain for the ones who do right and for the ones who do wrong.
(46) If you love only those people who love you, will God reward you for that? Even tax collectors love their friends.
(47) If you greet only your friends, what's so great about that? Don't even unbelievers do that?
(48) But you must always act like your Father in heaven.
Matthew 6:1-18 CEV
(1) When you do good deeds, don't try to show off. If you do, you won't get a reward from your Father in heaven.
(2) When you give to the poor, don't blow a loud horn. That's what show-offs do in the meeting places and on the street corners, because they are always looking for praise. I can assure you that they already have their reward.
(3) When you give to the poor, don't let anyone know about it.
(4) Then your gift will be given in secret. Your Father knows what is done in secret, and he will reward you.
(5) When you pray, don't be like those show-offs who love to stand up and pray in the meeting places and on the street corners. They do this just to look good. I can assure you that they already have their reward.
(6) When you pray, go into a room alone and close the door. Pray to your Father in private. He knows what is done in private, and he will reward you.
(7) When you pray, don't talk on and on as people do who don't know God. They think God likes to hear long prayers.
(8) Don't be like them. Your Father knows what you need before you ask.
(9) You should pray like this: Our Father in heaven, help us to honor your name.
(10) Come and set up your kingdom, so that everyone on earth will obey you, as you are obeyed in heaven.
(11) Give us our food for today.
(12) Forgive us for doing wrong, as we forgive others.
(13) Keep us from being tempted and protect us from evil.
(14) If you forgive others for the wrongs they do to you, your Father in heaven will forgive you.
(15) But if you don't forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.
(16) When you go without eating, don't try to look gloomy as those show-offs do when they go without eating. I can assure you that they already have their reward.
(17) Instead, comb your hair and wash your face.
(18) Then others won't know that you are going without eating. But your Father sees what is done in private, and he will reward you.
Matthew 5:43-6:18 ALT
(43) "You* heard that it was said, 'You will love your neighbor,' and you will hate your enemy, [Lev. 19:18]
(44) but _I_ say to you*, be loving your* enemies; be blessing the ones cursing you*; be doing good to the ones hating you*, and be praying on behalf of the ones mistreating you* and persecuting you*,
(45) in order that you* shall become [or, prove to be] sons [and daughters] of your Father, the [One] in heavens, because He causes His sun to rise on evil [ones] and good [ones], and He sends rain on righteous [ones] and unrighteous [ones].
(46) "For, if you* love the ones loving you*, what reward do you* have? Even the tax collectors do the same, do they not?
(47) "And if you* greet [fig., are friendly towards] your* friends only, what more do you* do [than others]? Even the tax collectors do so, do they not?
(48) "Therefore, _you*_ will be perfect, just as your* Father, the [One] in the heavens, is perfect.
Matthew 6:1-18 ALT
(1) "Be taking care not to be doing your* charitable giving before the people, in order to be seen by them; but if not [fig., otherwise], you* do not have a reward from your Father, the [One] in the heavens.
(2) "So when you are doing charitable giving, you should not sound a trumpet before you like the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, in order that they shall be praised by the people. Positively, I say to you*, they are receiving their reward in full.
(3) "But when _you_ do charitable giving, do not let your left hand know what the right hand is doing,
(4) in order that your charitable giving shall be in secret, and your Father, the [One] seeing in secret, will Himself reward you in the open.
(5) "And when you are praying, you will not be like the hypocrites, because they affectionately love standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the open streets to be praying, in order that they shall be seen by the people. Positively, I say to you*, they have their reward in full.
(6) "But when you* are praying, enter into your private room, and having shut your door, pray to your Father, the [One] in secret, and your Father, the [One] seeing in secret, will reward you in the open.
(7) "Now when you pray, do not use vain repetitions [or, many meaningless words] like the Gentiles, for they suppose that they will be heard by their many words.
(8) "Therefore, you* shall not be like them, for your* Father knows what [things] you* have need of before you ask Him.
(9) "Therefore, _you*_, be praying like this: 'Our Father, the [One] in the heavens, let Your name be regarded as holy.
(10) 'Let Your kingdom come; let Your will be done, as in heaven, [so] also on the earth.
(11) 'Give us today the bread sufficient for the day.
(12) 'And forgive us our debts [fig., sins], in the same way as _we _ also forgive our debtors [fig., the ones having sinned against us].
(13) 'And do not lead us into temptation, _but_ deliver us from evil [or, from the evil [one]]. Because Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory into the ages [fig., forever]! So be it [Gr. amen]!'
(14) "For, if you* forgive the people their transgressions, your Father, the [One] in the heavens, will also forgive you,*
(15) but if you* do not forgive the people their transgressions, neither will your* Father forgive your* transgressions.
(16) "And when you* are fasting, stop becoming gloomy like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces, in order that they shall appear to the people [as] fasting. Positively, I say to you, they are receiving their reward in full.
(17) "But when _you_ fast, anoint your head and wash your face,
(18) in order that you shall not appear to the people [as] fasting, _but_ [only] to your Father, the [One] in secret, and your Father, the [One] seeing in secret, will reward you.

You will note the reference windows often include more than one translation of the Bible. The reason is to strive to gain the best possible understanding of the original Hebrew and Greek. Since we don't speak those languages, we rely on those who have come before and made the effort to translate those texts into English for us. Considering several translations gives the benefit of the understanding of several translation committees or individuals.
The Translations we quote are:
