Revelation 1-3

John starts out by writing a letter to the seven congregations in Asia during his day, extending peace to each from Christ Jesus and telling them Christ is coming in Jehovah's name. (Revelation 1:1-8)

John goes on to tell them he is a sharer with them in their tribulation, in company with Jesus. He states he was a prisoner on Patmos for preaching about Jesus. That by inspiration he came to be in the Lord's day and heard a voice telling him to write what he saw and send it to the seven congregations, calling them each by name. (Revelation 1:9-20)

He commends each congregation in order for their strengths, and then teaches them about the things they need to correct. He closes the letter to those specific congregations by instructing all who have an ear to hear what the spirit says to the congregations. (Revelation 2:1-3:22)
