1 Corinthians 12:27-13:13 CEV
(27) Together you are the body of Christ. Each one of you is part of his body.
(28) First, God chose some people to be apostles and prophets and teachers for the church. But he also chose some to work miracles or heal the sick or help others or be leaders or speak different kinds of languages.
(29) Not everyone is an apostle. Not everyone is a prophet. Not everyone is a teacher. Not everyone can work miracles.
(30) Not everyone can heal the sick. Not everyone can speak different kinds of languages. Not everyone can tell what these languages mean.
(31) I want you to desire the best gifts. So I will show you a much better way.
1 Corinthians 13:1-13 CEV
(1) What if I could speak all languages of humans and of angels? If I did not love others, I would be nothing more than a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
(2) What if I could prophesy and understand all secrets and all knowledge? And what if I had faith that moved mountains? I would be nothing, unless I loved others.
(3) What if I gave away all that I owned and let myself be burned alive? I would gain nothing, unless I loved others.
(4) Love is kind and patient, never jealous, boastful, proud, or
(5) rude. Love isn't selfish or quick tempered. It doesn't keep a record of wrongs that others do.
(6) Love rejoices in the truth, but not in evil.
(7) Love is always supportive, loyal, hopeful, and trusting.
(8) Love never fails! Everyone who prophesies will stop, and unknown languages will no longer be spoken. All that we know will be forgotten.
(9) We don't know everything, and our prophecies are not complete.
(10) But what is perfect will someday appear, and what isn't perfect will then disappear.
(11) When we were children, we thought and reasoned as children do. But when we grew up, we quit our childish ways.
(12) Now all we can see of God is like a cloudy picture in a mirror. Later we will see him face to face. We don't know everything, but then we will, just as God completely understands us.
(13) For now there are faith, hope, and love. But of these three, the greatest is love.

(28) In the church God has appointed first apostles, next prophets, third teachers, then those who perform miracles, then those who have the gift of healing, then those who help others, those who are managers, and those who can speak in a number of languages.
(29) Not all believers are apostles, are they? Are all of them prophets? Do all of them teach? Do all of them perform miracles
(30) or have gifts of healing? Can all of them speak in other languages or interpret languages?
(31) You only want the better gifts, but I will show you the best thing to do.

(1) I may speak in the languages of humans and of angels. But if I don't have love, I am a loud gong or a clashing cymbal.
(2) I may have the gift to speak what God has revealed, and I may understand all mysteries and have all knowledge. I may even have enough faith to move mountains. But if I don't have love, I am nothing.
(3) I may even give away all that I have and give up my body to be burned. But if I don't have love, none of these things will help me.
(4) Love is patient. Love is kind. Love isn't jealous. It doesn't sing its own praises. It isn't arrogant.
(5) It isn't rude. It doesn't think about itself. It isn't irritable. It doesn't keep track of wrongs.
(6) It isn't happy when injustice is done, but it is happy with the truth.
(7) Love never stops being patient, never stops believing, never stops hoping, never gives up.
(8) Love never comes to an end. There is the gift of speaking what God has revealed, but it will no longer be used. There is the gift of speaking in other languages, but it will stop by itself. There is the gift of knowledge, but it will no longer be used.
(9) Our knowledge is incomplete and our ability to speak what God has revealed is incomplete.
(10) But when what is complete comes, then what is incomplete will no longer be used.
(11) When I was a child, I spoke like a child, thought like a child, and reasoned like a child. When I became an adult, I no longer used childish ways.
(12) Now we see a blurred image in a mirror. Then we will see very clearly. Now my knowledge is incomplete. Then I will have complete knowledge as God has complete knowledge of me.
(13) So these three things remain: faith, hope, and love. But the best one of these is love.

(28) And God has put some in the church, first, Apostles; second, prophets; third, teachers; then those with wonder-working powers, then those with the power of taking away disease, helpers, wise guides, users of strange tongues.
(29) Are all Apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? have all the power of working wonders?
(30) Are all able to take away disease? have all the power of tongues? are all able to give their sense?
(31) But let your desires be turned to the more important things given by the Spirit. And now I am pointing out to you an even better way.

(1) If I make use of the tongues of men and of angels, and have not love, I am like sounding brass, or a loud-tongued bell.
(2) And if I have a prophet's power, and have knowledge of all secret things; and if I have all faith, by which mountains may be moved from their place, but have not love, I am nothing.
(3) And if I give all my goods to the poor, and if I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it is of no profit to me.
(4) Love is never tired of waiting; love is kind; love has no envy; love has no high opinion of itself, love has no pride;
(5) Love's ways are ever fair, it takes no thought for itself; it is not quickly made angry, it takes no account of evil;
(6) It takes no pleasure in wrongdoing, but has joy in what is true;
(7) Love has the power of undergoing all things, having faith in all things, hoping all things.
(8) Though the prophet's word may come to an end, tongues come to nothing, and knowledge have no more value, love has no end.
(9) For our knowledge is only in part, and the prophet's word gives only a part of what is true:
(10) But when that which is complete is come, then that which is in part will be no longer necessary.
(11) When I was a child, I made use of a child's language, I had a child's feelings and a child's thoughts: now that I am a man, I have put away the things of a child.
(12) For now we see things in a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now my knowledge is in part; then it will be complete, even as God's knowledge of me.
(13) But now we still have faith, hope, love, these three; and the greatest of these is love.

27 Now you are Christ's body, and members individually. 28 And God has set the respective ones in the congregation, first, apostles; second, prophets; third, teachers; then powerful works; then gifts of healings; helpful services, abilities to direct, different tongues. 29 Not all are apostles, are they? Not all are prophets, are they? Not all are teachers, are they? Not all perform powerful works, do they? 30 Not all have gifts of healings, do they? Not all speak in tongues, do they? Not all are translators, are they? 31 But keep zealously seeking the greater gifts. And yet I show you a surpassing way. 13 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels but do not have love, I have become a sounding piece of brass or a clashing cymbal. 2 And if I have the gift of prophesying and am acquainted with all the sacred secrets and all knowledge, and if I have all the faith so as to transplant mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 And if I give all my belongings to feed others, and if I hand over my body, that I may boast, but do not have love, I am not profited at all. 4 Love is long-suffering and kind. Love is not jealous, it does not brag, does not get puffed up, 5 does not behave indecently, does not look for its own interests, does not become provoked. It does not keep account of the injury. 6 It does not rejoice over unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth. 7 It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 8 Love never fails. But whether there are gifts of prophesying, they will be done away with; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will be done away with. 9 For we have partial knowledge and we prophesy partially; 10 but when that which is complete arrives, that which is partial will be done away with. 11 When I was a babe, I used to speak as a babe, to think as a babe, to reason as a babe; but now that I have become a man, I have done away with the traits of a babe. 12 For at present we see in hazy outline by means of a metal mirror, but then it will be face to face. At present I know partially, but then I shall know accurately even as I am accurately known. 13 Now, however, there remain faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
