1 John 5:18-21 NWT 18 We know that every [person] that has been born from God [John 3:1-8] does not practice sin, but the One [first]born from God (Christ Jesus) watches him, and the wicked one does not fasten his hold on him. 19 We know we originate with God, [John 6:44] but the whole world is lying in the [power of the] wicked one. 20 But we know that the Son of God has come, and he has given us intellectual capacity that we may gain the knowledge of the true one. And we are in union with the true one, by means [of the words - John 6:63] of his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and life everlasting. 21 Little children, guard yourselves from idols. [Mat 7:15]

1 John 5:18-21 GNB We know that no children of God [John 3:1-8] keep on sinning, for the Son of God keeps them safe, and the Evil One cannot harm them. (19) We know that we belong to God [John 6:44] even though the whole world is under the rule of the Evil One. (20) We know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we know the true God [by means of the words of Christ - John 6:63]. We live in union with the true God---in union with his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and this is eternal life. (21) My children, keep yourselves safe from false gods! [Mat 7:15]

1 John 5:18-21 ESV We know that everyone who has been born of God [John 3:1-8] does not keep on sinning, but he who was born of God protects him, and the evil one does not touch him. (19) We know that we are from God, [John 6:44] and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one. (20) And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true [by means of the words of Christ - John 6:63]; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life. (21) Little children, keep yourselves from idols. [Mat 7:15]

1 John 5:18-21 GW We know that those who have been born from God [John 3:1-8] don't go on sinning. Rather, the Son of God protects them, and the evil one can't harm them. (19) We know that we are from God, [John 6:44] and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one. (20) We know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding so that we know the real God [by means of the words of Christ - John 6:63]. We are in the one who is real, his Son Jesus Christ. This Jesus Christ is [from] the real God and [is] eternal life. (21) Dear children, guard yourselves from false gods. [Mat 7:15]

1 John 5:18-21 BBE We are certain that one who is a child of God [John 3:1-8] will do no sin, but the Son of God keeps him so that he is not touched by the Evil One. (19) We are certain that we are of God, [John 6:44] but all the world is in the power of the Evil One. (20) And we are certain that the Son of God has come, and has given us a clear vision, so that we may see him who is true [by means of the words of Christ - John 6:63], and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life. (21) My little children, keep yourselves from false gods. [Mat 7:15]

1 John 5:18-21 CEV We are sure that God's children [John 3:1-8] do not keep on sinning. God's own Son protects them, and the devil cannot harm them. (19) We are certain that we come from God [John 6:44] and that the rest of the world is under the power of the devil. (20) We know that Jesus Christ the Son of God has come and has shown us the true God [by means of the words of Christ - John 6:63]. And because of Jesus, we now belong to the true God who gives eternal life. (21) Children, you must stay away from idols. [Mat 7:15]

You will note the reference windows often include more than one translation of the Bible. The reason is to strive to gain the best possible understanding of the original Hebrew and Greek. Since we don't speak those languages, we rely on those who have come before and made the effort to translate those texts into English for us. Considering several translations gives the benefit of the understanding of several translation committees or individuals.
