1 Thessalonians 5:1-11 GNB (1) There is no need to write you, friends, about the times and occasions when these things will happen. (2) For you yourselves know very well that the Day of the Lord will come as a thief comes at night. (3) When people [wicked people who have seized control of the earth and imagine they are finally beyond morality or the control of authority] say, "Everything is quiet and safe," then suddenly destruction will hit them! It will come as suddenly as the pains that come upon a woman in labor, and people will not escape. (4) But you, friends, are not in the darkness, and the Day should not take you by surprise like a thief. (5) All of you are people who belong to the light, who belong to the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. (6) So then, we should not be sleeping like the others; we should be awake and sober. (7) It is at night when people sleep; it is at night when they get drunk. (8) But we belong to the day, and we should be sober. We must wear faith and love as a breastplate, and our hope of salvation as a helmet. (9) God did not choose us to suffer his anger, but to possess salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, (10) who died for us in order that we might live together with him, whether we are alive or dead when he comes. (11) And so encourage one another and help one another, just as you are now doing.

1 Thessalonians 5:1-11 NWT 5 Now as for the times and the seasons, brothers, YOU need nothing to be written to YOU. 2 For YOU yourselves know quite well that Jehovah's   ('s) day is coming exactly as a thief in the night. 3 Whenever it is that they [wicked people who have seized control of the earth and imagine they are finally beyond morality or the control of authority] are saying: “Peace and security!” then sudden destruction is to be instantly upon them just as the pang of distress upon a pregnant woman; and they will by no means escape. 4 But YOU, brothers, YOU are not in darkness, so that that day should overtake YOU as it would thieves, 5 for YOU are all sons of light and sons of day. We belong neither to night nor to darkness. 6 So, then, let us not sleep on as the rest do, but let us stay awake and keep our senses. 7 For those who sleep are accustomed to sleep at night, and those who get drunk are usually drunk at night. 8 But as for us who belong to the day, let us keep our senses and have on the breastplate of faith and love and as a helmet the hope of salvation; 9 because God assigned us, not to wrath, but to the acquiring of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. 10 He died for us, that, whether we stay awake or are asleep, we should live together with him. 11 Therefore keep comforting one another and building one another up, just as YOU are in fact doing.

1 Thessalonians 5:1-11 CEV (1) I don't need to write you about the time or date when all this will happen. (2) You surely know that the Lord's return will be as a thief coming at night. (3) People [wicked people who have seized control of the earth and imagine they are finally beyond morality or the control of authority] will think they are safe and secure. But destruction will suddenly strike them like the pains of a woman about to give birth. And they won't escape. (4) My dear friends, you don't live in darkness, and so that day won't surprise you like a thief. (5) You belong to the light and live in the day. We don't live in the night or belong to the dark. (6) Others may sleep, but we should stay awake and be alert. (7) People sleep during the night, and some even get drunk. (8) But we belong to the day. So we must stay sober and let our faith and love be like a suit of armor. Our firm hope that we will be saved is our helmet. (9) God doesn't intend to punish us, but wants us to be saved by our Lord Jesus Christ. (10) Christ died for us, so that we could live with him, whether we are alive or dead when he comes. (11) That's why you must encourage and help each other, just as you are already doing.

1 Thessalonians 5:1-11 GW (1) Brothers and sisters, you don't need anyone to write to you about times and dates. (2) You know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. (3) When people [wicked people who have seized control of the earth and imagine they are finally beyond morality or the control of authority] say, "Everything is safe and sound!" destruction will suddenly strike them. It will be as sudden as labor pains come to a pregnant woman. They won't be able to escape. (4) But, brothers and sisters, you don't live in the dark. That day won't take you by surprise as a thief would. (5) You belong to the day and the light not to the night and the dark. (6) Therefore, we must not fall asleep like other people, but we must stay awake and be sober. (7) People who sleep, sleep at night; people who get drunk, get drunk at night. (8) Since we belong to the day, we must be sober. We must put on faith and love as a breastplate and the hope of salvation as a helmet. (9) It was not God's intention that we experience his anger but that we obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. (10) He died for us so that, whether we are awake in this life or asleep in death, we will live together with him. (11) Therefore, encourage each other and strengthen one another as you are doing.

1 Thessalonians 5:1-11 ESV (1) Now concerning the times and the seasons, brothers, you have no need to have anything written to you. (2) For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. (3) While people [wicked people who have seized control of the earth and imagine they are finally beyond morality or the control of authority] are saying, "There is peace and security," then sudden destruction will come upon them as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. (4) But you are not in darkness, brothers, for that day to surprise you like a thief. (5) For you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness. (6) So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober. (7) For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, are drunk at night. (8) But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation. (9) For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, (10) who died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep we might live with him. (11) Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.

You will note the reference windows often include more than one translation of the Bible. The reason is to strive to gain the best possible understanding of the original Hebrew and Greek. Since we don't speak those languages, we rely on those who have come before and made the effort to translate those texts into English for us. Considering several translations gives the benefit of the understanding of several translation committees or individuals.
