1 Timothy 6:3-8 ESV If anyone teaches a different doctrine and does not agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching that accords with godliness, (4) he is puffed up with conceit and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy craving for controversy and for quarrels about words, which produce envy, dissension, slander, evil suspicions, (5) and constant friction among people who are depraved in mind and deprived of the truth, imagining that godliness is a means of gain. (6) Now there is great gain in godliness with contentment, (7) for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. (8) But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content.
1 Timothy 6:3-8 LITV If anyone teaches differently, and does not consent to sound words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching according to godliness, (4) he has been puffed up, understanding nothing, but is sick concerning doubts and arguments, out of which comes envy, strife, evil-speakings, evil suspicions, (5) meddling, of men whose mind has been corrupted and deprived of the truth, supposing gain to be godliness. Withdraw from such persons. (6) But godliness with contentment is great gain. (7) For we have brought nothing into the world, and it is plain that neither can we carry anything out. (8) But having food and clothing, we will be satisfied with these.
1 Timothy 6:3-8 GW Whoever teaches false doctrine and doesn't agree with the accurate words of our Lord Jesus Christ and godly teachings (4) is a conceited person. He shows that he doesn't understand anything. Rather, he has an unhealthy desire to argue and quarrel about words. This produces jealousy, rivalry, cursing, suspicion, (5) and conflict between people whose corrupt minds have been robbed of the truth. They think that a godly life is a way to make a profit. (6) A godly life brings huge profits to people who are content with what they have. (7) We didn't bring anything into the world, and we can't take anything out of it. (8) As long as we have food and clothes, we should be satisfied.
1 Timothy 6:3-8 ALT If anyone teaches a different [or, heretical] doctrine and does not consent to sound words, the [ones] of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the teaching according to godliness, (4) having been swollen up with pride, knowing nothing, but obsessing about disputes and quarrels about words [fig., petty controversies], from which comes envy [or, jealousy], strife [or, bitter conflict], blasphemies, evil suspicions, (5) constant arguing of people having been corrupted in the mind and having been deprived of the truth, supposing godliness to be a means of gain. Be withdrawing from such people. (6) But godliness with contentment is great gain. (7) For we brought nothing into the world, [and it is] certain that neither are we able to carry anything out! (8) But having food and clothing, with these [things] we will be content.
