It our day, we have our faith in Jesus Christ as our approach to God ( יהוה ) . This scripture references the period when the ancient nation of Israel had prophets to intercede with God for them.
2 Kings 5:2-14 GNB In one of their raids against Israel, the Syrians had carried off a little Israelite girl, who became a servant of Naaman's wife. (3) One day she said to her mistress, "I wish that my master could go to the prophet who lives in Samaria! He would cure him of his disease." (4) When Naaman heard of this, he went to the king and told him what the girl had said. (5) The king said, "Go to the king of Israel and take this letter to him." So Naaman set out, taking thirty thousand pieces of silver, six thousand pieces of gold, and ten changes of fine clothes. (6) The letter that he took read: "This letter will introduce my officer Naaman. I want you to cure him of his disease." (7) When the king of Israel read the letter, he tore his clothes in dismay and exclaimed, "How can the king of Syria expect me to cure this man? Does he think that I am God, with the power of life and death? It's plain that he is trying to start a quarrel with me!" (8) When the prophet Elisha heard what had happened, he sent word to the king: "Why are you so upset? Send the man to me, and I'll show him that there is a prophet in Israel!" (9) So Naaman went with his horses and chariot and stopped at the entrance to Elisha's house. (10) Elisha sent a servant out to tell him to go and wash himself seven times in the Jordan River, and he would be completely cured of his disease. (11) But Naaman left in a rage, saying, "I thought that he would at least come out to me, pray to the LORD ( יהוה ) his God, wave his hand over the diseased spot, and cure me! (12) Besides, aren't the rivers Abana and Pharpar, back in Damascus, better than any river in Israel? I could have washed in them and been cured!" (13) His servants went up to him and said, "Sir, if the prophet had told you to do something difficult, you would have done it. Now why can't you just wash yourself, as he said, and be cured?" (14) So Naaman went down to the Jordan, dipped himself in it seven times, as Elisha had instructed, and he was completely cured. His flesh became firm and healthy like that of a child.

(3) The girl told her mistress, "If only my master were with the prophet in Samaria. Then the prophet could cure him of his skin disease." (4) Naaman went to his master and told him what the girl from Israel had said. (5) The king of Aram said, "You may go. I will also send a letter to the king of Israel." When Naaman left, he took 750 pounds of silver, 150 pounds of gold, and 10 sets of clothing with him. (6) He brought the letter to the king of Israel. It read, "I'm sending my officer Naaman with this letter. Cure him of his skin disease." (7) When the king of Israel read the letter, he tore his clothesin distress. He asked, "Am I God? Can I kill someone and then bring him back to life? This man sends someone to me so that I can cure his skin disease! All of you should realize and understand that he's trying to pick a fight with me." (8) But when Elisha, the man of God, heard that the king of Israel had torn his clothes, he sent a messenger to the king. He asked, "Why did you tear your clothes? Please let Naaman come to me and find out that there is a prophet in Israel." (9) Naaman came with his horses and chariot and stopped at the entrance to Elisha's home. (10) Elisha sent a messenger to him. He said, "Wash yourself seven times in the Jordan River, and your skin will be healthy and clean." (11) But Naaman became angry and left. He said, "I thought he would at least come outof his house, stand somewhere, call on the name of the LORD ( יהוה ) his God, wave his hand over theinfected place, and heal the skin disease. (12) The Abana and Pharpar Rivers in Damascus have better water than any of the rivers in Israel. Couldn't I wash in them and be clean?" So he turned around and left in anger. (13) But Naaman's servants went to him and said, "Master, if the prophet had asked you to do some extraordinary act, wouldn't you have done it? Why shouldn't you do as he said: 'Wash and be clean'?" (14) So he went to dip himself in the Jordan River seven times, as the man of God had instructed him. His skin became healthy again like a little child's skin.

(4) So Naaman went in and told his lord, "Thus and so spoke the girl from the land of Israel." (5) And the king of Syria said, "Go now, and I will send a letter to the king of Israel." So he went, taking with him ten talents of silver, six thousand shekels of gold, and ten changes of clothing. (6) And he brought the letter to the king of Israel, which read, "When this letter reaches you, know that I have sent to you Naaman my servant, that you may cure him of his leprosy." (7) And when the king of Israel read the letter, he tore his clothes and said, "Am I God, to kill and to make alive, that this man sends word to me to cure a man of his leprosy? Only consider, and see how he is seeking a quarrel with me." (8) But when Elisha the man of God heard that the king of Israel had torn his clothes, he sent to the king, saying, "Why have you torn your clothes? Let him come now to me, that he may know that there is a prophet in Israel." (9) So Naaman came with his horses and chariots and stood at the door of Elisha's house. (10) And Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, "Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and your flesh shall be restored, and you shall be clean." (11) But Naaman was angry and went away, saying, "Behold, I thought that he would surely come out to me and stand and call upon the name of the LORD ( יהוה ) his God, and wave his hand over the place and cure the leper. (12) Are not Abana and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? Could I not wash in them and be clean?" So he turned and went away in a rage. (13) But his servants came near and said to him, "My father, it is a great word the prophet has spoken to you; will you not do it? Has he actually said to you, 'Wash, and be clean'?" (14) So he went down and dipped himself seven times in the Jordan, according to the word of the man of God, and his flesh was restored like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.
