2 Samuel 23:13-17 NWT
13 And three of the thirty head ones (the mighty men of David's army) proceeded to go down and come at [the] harvest, to David at the cave of A·dul´lam; and a tent village of the Phi·lis´tines was encamped in the low plain of the Reph´a·im. 14 And David was then in the place hard to approach; and an outpost of the Phi·lis´tines was then in Beth´le·hem. 15 After a while David expressed his craving and said: "O that I might have a drink of the water from the cistern of Bethlehem that is at the gate!" 16 At that the three mighty men forced their way into the camp of the Philistines and drew water from the cistern of Bethlehem that is at the gate and came carrying and bringing it to David; and he did not consent to drink it, but poured it out to Jehovah  ( יהוה ) . 17 And he went on to say: "It is unthinkable on my part, O Jehovah  ( יהוה ) , that I should do this! [Shall I drink] the blood of the men going at the risk of their souls?" And he did not consent to drink it.

2 Samuel 23:13-17 GW

(14) While David was in the fortified camp, Philistine troops were at Bethlehem. (15) When David became thirsty, he said, "I wish I could have a drink of water from the well at the city gate of Bethlehem." (16) So the three fighting men burst [fought their way] into the Philistine camp and drew water from the well. They brought it to David, but he refused to drink it. He poured it out as an offering to the LORD  (  יהוה  )  and said, (17) "It's unthinkable that I would do this, LORD  (  יהוה  ) . This is the blood of men who risked their lives!" So he refused to drink it. These are the things which the three fighting men did.

(15) And David longed and said, Oh that someone would give me a drink from the water of the well of Bethlehem by the gate! (16) And the three mighty men broke through the army of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David. But he would not drink of it, but poured it out to Jehovah  ( יהוה ) . (17) And he said, Be it far from me, O Jehovah  ( יהוה ) , that I should do this. You will note the reference windows often include more than one translation of the Bible. The reason is to strive to gain the best possible understanding of the original Hebrew and Greek. Since we don't speak those languages, we rely on those who have come before and made the effort to translate those texts into English for us. Considering several translations gives the benefit of the understanding of several translation committees or individuals.
The Translations we quote are:
