2 Timothy 2:14-26 GW Remind believers about these things, and warn them in the sight of God not to quarrel over words (religious doctrines of men). Quarreling doesn't do any good but only destroys those who are listening. (15) Do your best to present yourself to God as a tried-and-true worker who isn't ashamed to teach the word of truth correctly (by directing each one to read Christ's words). (16) Avoid pointless discussions (about anything beyond what Jesus specifically taught). People who pay attention to these pointless discussions will become more ungodly, (17) and what they say will spread like cancer. Hymenaeus and Philetus are like that. (18) They have abandoned the truth. They are destroying the faith of others by saying that people who have died have already come back to life (Jesus hadn't said that so they should have known better). (19) In spite of all that, God's people have a solid foundation (the Gospel teachings of Jesus). These words are engraved on it: "The Lord knows those who belong to him," and "Whoever worships the Lord must give up doing wrong." (20) In a large house there are not only objects made of gold and silver, but also those made of wood and clay. Some objects are honored when they are used; others aren't. (21) Those who stop associating with dishonorable people will be honored. They will be set apart for the master's use, prepared to do good things. (22) Stay away from lusts which tempt young people. Pursue what has God's approval. Pursue faith, love, and peace together with those who worship the Lord with a pure heart. (23) Don't have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments (some people actually fight about whether Jesus was hung on an upright stake or on a cross of two pieces of wood). You know they cause quarrels. (24) A servant of the Lord must not quarrel. Instead, he must be kind to everyone. He must be a good teacher (by directing people to listen to Christ - [John 1:43-46]). He must be willing to suffer wrong. (25) He must be gentle in correcting those who oppose the Good News. Maybe God will allow them to change the way they think and act and lead them to know the truth. (26) Then they might come back to their senses and God will free them from the devil's snare so that they can do his will.

2 Timothy 2:14-26 GNB Remind your people of this, and give them a solemn warning in God's presence not to fight over words. It does no good, but only ruins the people who listen. (15) Do your best to win full approval in God's sight, as a worker who is not ashamed of his work, one who correctly teaches the message of God's truth. (16) Keep away from profane and foolish discussions, which only drive people farther away from God. (17) Such teaching is like an open sore that eats away the flesh. Two men who have taught such things are Hymenaeus and Philetus. (18) They have left the way of truth and are upsetting the faith of some believers by saying that our resurrection has already taken place. (19) But the solid foundation that God has laid cannot be shaken; and on it are written these words: "The Lord knows those who are his" and "Those who say that they belong to the Lord must turn away from wrongdoing." (20) In a large house there are dishes and bowls of all kinds: some are made of silver and gold, others of wood and clay; some are for special occasions, others for ordinary use. (21) Those who make themselves clean from all those evil things, will be used for special purposes, because they are dedicated and useful to their Master, ready to be used for every good deed. (22) Avoid the passions of youth, and strive for righteousness, faith, love, and peace, together with those who with a pure heart call out to the Lord for help. (23) But keep away from foolish and ignorant arguments; you know that they end up in quarrels. (24) As the Lord's servant, you must not quarrel. You must be kind toward all, a good and patient teacher, (25) who is gentle as you correct your opponents, for it may be that God will give them the opportunity to repent and come to know the truth. (26) And then they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the Devil, who had caught them and made them obey his will.

2 Timothy 2:14-26 CEV Don't let anyone forget these things. And with God as your witness, you must warn them not to argue about words. These arguments don't help anyone. In fact, they ruin everyone who listens to them. (15) Do your best to win God's approval as a worker who doesn't need to be ashamed and who teaches only the true message. (16) Keep away from worthless and useless talk. It only leads people farther away from God. (17) That sort of talk is like a sore that won't heal. And Hymenaeus and Philetus have been talking this way (18) by teaching that the dead have already been raised to life. This is far from the truth, and it is destroying the faith of some people. (19) But the foundation that God has laid is solid. On it is written, "The Lord knows who his people are. So everyone who worships the Lord must turn away from evil." (20) In a large house some dishes are made of gold or silver, while others are made of wood or clay. Some of these are special, and others are not. (21) That's also how it is with people. The ones who stop doing evil and make themselves pure will become special. Their lives will be holy and pleasing to their Master, and they will be able to do all kinds of good deeds. (22) Run from temptations that capture young people. Always do the right thing. Be faithful, loving, and easy to get along with. Worship with people whose hearts are pure. (23) Stay away from stupid and senseless arguments. These only lead to trouble, (24) and God's servants must not be troublemakers. They must be kind to everyone, and they must be good teachers and very patient. (25) Be humble when you correct people who oppose you. Maybe God will lead them to turn to him and learn the truth. (26) They have been trapped by the devil, and he makes them obey him, but God may help them escape.

You will note the reference windows often include more than one translation of the Bible. The reason is to strive to gain the best possible understanding of the original Hebrew and Greek. Since we don't speak those languages, we rely on those who have come before and made the effort to translate those texts into English for us. Considering several translations gives the benefit of the understanding of several translation committees or individuals.
