Ecclesiastes 9:14-17 ESV (14) There was a little city with few men in it (the true followers of Christ), and a great king came against it and besieged it, building great siegeworks against it. (15) But there was found in it a poor, wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city. Yet no one remembered that poor man. (16) But I say that wisdom is better than might, though the poor man's wisdom is despised and his words are not heard. (17) The words of the wise heard in quiet are better than the shouting of a ruler among fools.

Ecclesiastes 9:14-17 GNB (14) There was a little town without many people in it (the true followers of Christ). A powerful king attacked it. He surrounded it and prepared to break through the walls. (15) Someone lived there who was poor, but so clever that he could have saved the town. But no one thought about him. (16) I have always said that wisdom is better than strength, but no one thinks of the poor as wise or pays any attention to what they say. (17) It is better to listen to the quiet words of someone wise than to the shouts of a ruler at a council of fools.

Ecclesiastes 9:14-17 GW (14) There was a small town with a few soldiers in it (the true followers of Christ), and a powerful king came to attack it. He surrounded it and blockaded it. (15) A poor, wise person was found in that town. He saved the town using his wisdom. But no one remembered that poor person. (16) So I said, "Wisdom is better than strength," even though that poor person's wisdom was despised, and no one listened to what he said. (17) One should pay more attention to calm words from wise people than shouting from a ruler of fools.

Ecclesiastes 9:14-17 CEV (14) It happened when a powerful ruler surrounded and attacked a small city where only a few people lived (the true followers of Christ). The enemy army was getting ready to break through the city walls. (15) But the city was saved by the wisdom of a poor person who was soon forgotten. (16) So I decided that wisdom is better than strength. Yet if you are poor, no one pays any attention to you, no matter how smart you are. (17) Words of wisdom spoken softly make much more sense than the shouts of a ruler to a crowd of fools.

You will note the reference windows often include more than one translation of the Bible. The reason is to strive to gain the best possible understanding of the original Hebrew and Greek. Since we don't speak those languages, we rely on those who have come before and made the effort to translate those texts into English for us. Considering several translations gives the benefit of the understanding of several translation committees or individuals.
