John 7:40-44 MWT 40 Therefore some of the crowd that heard these words began saying: "This is for a certainty The Prophet." 41 Others were saying: "This is the Christ." But some were saying: "The Christ is not actually coming out of Galilee, is he? 42 Has not the Scripture said that the Christ is coming from the offspring of David, and from Bethlehem the village where David used to be?" [Ps 132:11 ; Jer 23:5 ; 1Sam 16:1,13; Micah 5:2] 43 Therefore a division over him developed among the crowd. 44 Some of them, though, were wanting to get hold of him, but no man did lay hands upon him.

John 7:40-44 CEV (40) When the crowd heard Jesus say this, some of them said, "He must be the Prophet!" (41) Others said, "He is the Messiah!" Others even said, "Can the Messiah come from Galilee? (42) The Scriptures say that the Messiah will come from the family of King David. Doesn't this mean that he will be born in David's hometown of Bethlehem?" [Ps 132:11 ; Jer 23:5 ; 1Sam 16:1,13; Micah 5:2] (43) The people started taking sides against each other because of Jesus. (44) Some of them wanted to arrest him, but no one laid a hand on him.

John 7:40-44 BBE (40) When these words came to their ears, some of the people said, This is certainly the prophet. (41) Others said, This is the Christ. But others said, Not so; will the Christ come from Galilee? (42) Do not the Writings say that the Christ comes of the seed of David and from Beth-lehem, the little town where David was? [Ps 132:11 ; Jer 23:5 ; 1Sam 16:1,13; Micah 5:2] (43) So there was a division among the people because of him. (44) And some of them had a desire to take him; but no man put hands on him.

John 7:40-44 ALT (40) Therefore, many from the crowd having heard the word were saying, "This One is truly the Prophet." (41) Others were saying, "This is the Christ." Others were saying, "But the Christ is not coming out of Galilee, is He? (42) "The Scripture said the Christ is coming from the seed of David and from Bethlehem, the village where David was, did it not?" [Ps 132:11 ; Jer 23:5 ; 1Sam 16:1,13; Micah 5:2] (43) So a division arose among the crowd because of Him. (44) But some out of them were wanting to seize Him, but no one laid his hands on Him.

John 7:40-44 GNB (40) Some of the people in the crowd heard him say this and said, "This man is really the Prophet!" (41) Others said, "He is the Messiah!" But others said, "The Messiah will not come from Galilee! (42) The scripture says that the Messiah will be a descendant of King David and will be born in Bethlehem, the town where David lived." [Ps 132:11 ; Jer 23:5 ; 1Sam 16:1,13; Micah 5:2] (43) So there was a division in the crowd because of Jesus. (44) Some wanted to seize him, but no one laid a hand on him.

You will note the reference windows often include more than one translation of the Bible. The reason is to strive to gain the best possible understanding of the original Hebrew and Greek. Since we don't speak those languages, we rely on those who have come before and made the effort to translate those texts into English for us. Considering several translations gives the benefit of the understanding of several translation committees or individuals.
