Luke 8:40-55 GNB When Jesus returned to the other side of the lake, the people welcomed him, because they had all been waiting for him. (41) Then a man named Jairus arrived; he was an official in the local synagogue. He threw himself down at Jesus' feet and begged him to go to his home, (42) because his only daughter, who was twelve years old, was dying. As Jesus went along, the people were crowding him from every side. (43) Among them was a woman who had suffered from severe bleeding for twelve years; she had spent all she had on doctors, but no one had been able to cure her. (44) She came up in the crowd behind Jesus and touched the edge of his cloak, and her bleeding stopped at once. (45) Jesus asked, "Who touched me?" Everyone denied it, and Peter said, "Master, the people are all around you and crowding in on you." (46) But Jesus said, "Someone touched me, for I knew it when power went out of me." (47) The woman saw that she had been found out, so she came trembling and threw herself at Jesus' feet. There in front of everybody, she told him why she had touched him and how she had been healed at once. (48) Jesus said to her, "My daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace." (49) While Jesus was saying this, a messenger came from the official's house. "Your daughter has died," he told Jairus; "don't bother the Teacher any longer." (50) But Jesus heard it and said to Jairus, "Don't be afraid; only believe, and she will be well." (51) When he arrived at the house, he would not let anyone go in with him except Peter, John, and James, and the child's father and mother. (52) Everyone there was crying and mourning for the child. Jesus said, "Don't cry; the child is not dead---she is only sleeping!" (53) They all made fun of him, because they knew that she was dead. (54) But Jesus took her by the hand and called out, "Get up, child!" (55) Her life returned, and she got up at once, and Jesus ordered them to give her something to eat.

Luke 8:40-55 GW When Jesus came back, a crowd welcomed him. Everyone was expecting him. (41) A man named Jairus, a synagogue leader, arrived and quickly bowed down in front of Jesus. He begged Jesus to come to his home. (42) His only daughter, who was about twelve years old, was dying. As Jesus went, the people were crowding around him. (43) A woman who had been suffering from chronic bleeding for twelve years was in the crowd. No one could cure her. (44) She came up behind Jesus, touched the edge of his clothes, and her bleeding stopped at once. (45) Jesus asked, "Who touched me?" After everyone denied touching him, Peter said, "Teacher, the people are crowding you and pressing against you." (46) Jesus said, "Someone touched me. I know power has gone out of me." (47) The woman saw that she couldn't hide. Trembling, she quickly bowed in front of him. There, in front of all the people, she told why she touched him and how she was cured at once. (48) Jesus told her, "Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace!" (49) While Jesus was still speaking to her, someone came from the synagogue leader's home. He said, "Your daughter is dead. Don't bother the teacher anymore." (50) When Jesus heard this, he told the synagogue leader, "Don't be afraid! Just believe, and she will get well." (51) Jesus went into the house. He allowed no one to go with him except Peter, John, James, and the child's parents. (52) Everyone was crying and showing how sad they were. Jesus said, "Don't cry! She's not dead. She's just sleeping." (53) They laughed at him because they knew she was dead. (54) But Jesus took her hand and called out, "Child, get up!" (55) She came back to life and got up at once. He ordered her parents to give her something to eat.

Luke 8:40-55 NWT 40 When Jesus got back, the crowd received him kindly, for they were all expecting him. 41 But, look! a man named Ja´i·rus came, and this man was a presiding officer of the synagogue. And he fell at the feet of Jesus and began to entreat him to enter into his house, 42 because he had an only-begotten daughter about twelve years old and she was dying. As he was going the crowds thronged him. 43 And a woman, subject to a flow of blood for twelve years, who had not been able to get a cure from anyone, 44 approached from behind and touched the fringe of his outer garment, and instantly her flow of blood stopped. 45 So Jesus said: “Who was it that touched me?” When they were all denying it, Peter said: “Instructor, the crowds are hemming you in and closely pressing you.” 46 Yet Jesus said: “Someone touched me, for I perceived that power went out of me.” 47 Seeing that she had not escaped notice, the woman came trembling and fell down before him and disclosed before all the people the cause for which she touched him and how she was healed instantly. 48 But he said to her: “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go your way in peace.” 49 While he was yet speaking, a certain representative of the presiding officer of the synagogue came, saying: “Your daughter has died; do not bother the teacher any longer.” 50 On hearing this, Jesus answered him: “Have no fear, only put forth faith, and she will be saved.” 51 When he reached the house he did not let anyone go in with him except Peter and John and James and the girl’s father and mother. 52 But people were all weeping and beating themselves in grief for her. So he said: “STOP weeping, for she did not die but is sleeping.” 53 At this they began to laugh at him scornfully, because they knew she had died. 54 But he took her by the hand and called, saying: “Girl, get up!” 55 And her spirit returned, and she rose instantly, and he ordered something to be given her to eat.

You will note the reference windows often include more than one translation of the Bible. The reason is to strive to gain the best possible understanding of the original Hebrew and Greek. Since we don't speak those languages, we rely on those who have come before and made the effort to translate those texts into English for us. Considering several translations gives the benefit of the understanding of several translation committees or individuals.
