Mark 5:1-17 GNB Jesus and his disciples arrived on the other side of Lake Galilee, in the territory of Gerasa. (2) As soon as Jesus got out of the boat, he was met by a man who came out of the burial caves there. This man had an evil spirit in him (3) and lived among the tombs. Nobody could keep him tied with chains any more; (4) many times his feet and his hands had been tied, but every time he broke the chains and smashed the irons on his feet. He was too strong for anyone to control him. (5) Day and night he wandered among the tombs and through the hills, screaming and cutting himself with stones. (6) He was some distance away when he saw Jesus; so he ran, fell on his knees before him, (7) and screamed in a loud voice, "Jesus, Son of the Most High God! What do you want with me? For God's sake, I beg you, don't punish me!" (8) (He said this because Jesus was saying, "Evil spirit, come out of this man!") (9) So Jesus asked him, "What is your name!" The man answered, "My name is 'Mob'---there are so many of us!" (10) And he kept begging Jesus not to send the evil spirits out of that region. (11) There was a large herd of pigs near by, feeding on a hillside. (12) So the spirits begged Jesus, "Send us to the pigs, and let us go into them." (13) He let them go, and the evil spirits went out of the man and entered the pigs. The whole herd---about two thousand pigs in all---rushed down the side of the cliff into the lake and was drowned. (14) The men who had been taking care of the pigs ran away and spread the news in the town and among the farms. People went out to see what had happened, (15) and when they came to Jesus, they saw the man who used to have the mob of demons in him. He was sitting there, clothed and in his right mind; and they were all afraid. (16) Those who had seen it told the people what had happened to the man with the demons, and about the pigs. (17) So they asked Jesus to leave their territory.

Mark 5:1-17 ESV They came to the other side of the sea, to the country of the Gerasenes. (2) And when Jesus had stepped out of the boat, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit. (3) He lived among the tombs. And no one could bind him anymore, not even with a chain, (4) for he had often been bound with shackles and chains, but he wrenched the chains apart, and he broke the shackles in pieces. No one had the strength to subdue him. (5) Night and day among the tombs and on the mountains he was always crying out and cutting himself with stones. (6) And when he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and fell down before him. (7) And crying out with a loud voice, he said, "What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I adjure you by God, do not torment me." (8) For he was saying to him, "Come out of the man, you unclean spirit!" (9) And Jesus asked him, "What is your name?" He replied, "My name is Legion, for we are many." (10) And he begged him earnestly not to send them out of the country. (11) Now a great herd of pigs was feeding there on the hillside, (12) and they begged him, saying, "Send us to the pigs; let us enter them." (13) So he gave them permission. And the unclean spirits came out, and entered the pigs, and the herd, numbering about two thousand, rushed down the steep bank into the sea and were drowned in the sea. (14) The herdsmen fled and told it in the city and in the country. And people came to see what it was that had happened. (15) And they came to Jesus and saw the demon-possessed man, the one who had had the legion, sitting there, clothed and in his right mind, and they were afraid. (16) And those who had seen it described to them what had happened to the demon-possessed man and to the pigs. (17) And they began to beg Jesus to depart from their region.

Mark 5:1-17 ALT Then they came to the other side of the sea, into the region of the Gadarenes. (2) And He having come out from the boat, immediately a man met him out of the tombs with an unclean [or, defiling] spirit, (3) who was having his dwelling among the tombs. And not even with chains was anyone able to bind him, (4) because he had frequently been bound with shackles and chains. And the chains had been pulled apart by him, and the shackles had been broken in pieces, and none was able to tame him. (5) And through all [fig. continually], night and day, in the mountains and in the tombs, he was crying out and cutting himself with stones. (6) Now having seen Jesus from a distance, he ran and prostrated himself in reverence before Him. (7) And having cried out with a loud voice, he said, "What to me and to You [fig., What have I to do with You], Jesus, Son of God the Most High? I adjure You [or, place You under an oath] [by] God; You shall not torment me!" (8) For He was saying to him, "Come out from the man, [you] unclean [or, defiling] spirit!" (9) And He was questioning him, "What [is] your name?" And he answered, saying, "Legion [is] my name, because we are many." (10) And he began calling on Him much, so that He should not send them out of the region. (11) Now [there] was there, near the mountain, a large herd of pigs being fed. (12) And all the demons pleaded with Him, saying, "Send us into the pigs, so that we shall enter into them." (13) Then immediately Jesus permitted them. And having come out, the unclean [or, defiling] spirits entered into the pigs, and the herd stampeded down the steep bank into the sea—now they were about two thousand—and they were being drowned in the sea. (14) So the ones feeding the pigs fled, and they reported [it] in the city and in the farms. And they came out to see what it is, the [thing] having happened. (15) And they come to Jesus, and they see the one being demon-possessed [or, oppressed by demons] sitting and having been clothed and being of sound mind, the one having had the legion. And they were frightened. (16) Now the ones having seen [it] related to them how it had happened to the one being demon-possessed [or, oppressed by demons] and about the pigs. (17) Then they began to be pleading with Him to go away from their borders.

Mark 5:1-17 NWT 5 Well, they got to the other side of the sea into the country of the Ger´a·senes. 2 And immediately after he got out of the boat a man under the power of an unclean spirit met him from among the memorial tombs. 3 He had his haunt among the tombs; and up to that time absolutely nobody was able to bind him fast even with a chain, 4 because he had oftentimes been bound with fetters and chains, but the chains were snapped apart by him and the fetters were actually smashed; and nobody had the strength to subdue him. 5 And continually, night and day, he was crying out in the tombs and in the mountains and slashing himself with stones. 6 But on catching sight of Jesus from a distance he ran and did obeisance to him, 7 and, when he had cried out with a loud voice, he said: “What have I to do with you, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I put you under oath by God not to torment me.” 8 For he had been telling it: “Come out of the man, you unclean spirit.” 9 But he began to ask him: “What is your name?” And he said to him: “My name is Legion, because there are many of us.” 10 And he entreated him many times not to send the spirits out of the country. 11 Now a great herd of swine was there at the mountain feeding. 12 So they entreated him, saying: “Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.” 13 And he permitted them. With that the unclean spirits came out and entered into the swine; and the herd rushed over the precipice into the sea, about two thousand of them, and they drowned one after another in the sea. 14 But the herders of them fled and reported it in the city and in the countryside; and people came to see what it was that had happened. 15 So they came to Jesus, and they beheld the demon-possessed [man] sitting clothed and in his sound mind, this [man] that had had the legion; and they grew fearful. 16 Also, those who had seen it related to them how this had happened to the demon-possessed [man] and about the swine. 17 And so they started to entreat him to go away from their districts.

You will note the reference windows often include more than one translation of the Bible. The reason is to strive to gain the best possible understanding of the original Hebrew and Greek. Since we don't speak those languages, we rely on those who have come before and made the effort to translate those texts into English for us. Considering several translations gives the benefit of the understanding of several translation committees or individuals.
