Matthew 7:15-16a GNB "Be on your guard against false prophets; they come to you looking like sheep on the outside, but on the inside they are really like wild wolves. (16) You will know them by what they do...

The Bible here teaches we must avoid teachers of lies. (Mat 15:8-9) It further says we gain knowledge of (or identify) false prophets by their fruitage. That is simple! If a person or group directs you to Christ, encouraging you to know him personally by reading the Gospels, that is good fruit or works. If they direct you to their group or sect, asserting joining them (and being identified as following their doctrine of faith) is your only hope of salvation, that is always bad fruit.

You will note the reference windows often include more than one translation of the Bible. The reason is to strive to gain the best possible understanding of the original Hebrew and Greek. Since we don't speak those languages, we rely on those who have come before and made the effort to translate those texts into English for us. Considering several translations gives the benefit of the understanding of several translation committees or individuals.
