Matthew 21:33-46 ESV "Hear another parable. There was a master of a house who planted a vineyard and put a fence around it and dug a winepress in it and built a tower and leased it to tenants, and went into another country. (34) When the season for fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the tenants to get his fruit. (35) And the tenants took his servants and beat one, killed another, and stoned another. (36) Again he sent other servants, more than the first. And they did the same to them. (37) Finally he sent his son to them, saying, 'They will respect my son.' (38) But when the tenants saw the son, they said to themselves, 'This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and have his inheritance.' (39) And they took him and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. (40) When therefore the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?" (41) They said to him, "He will put those wretches to a miserable death and let out the vineyard to other tenants who will give him the fruits in their seasons." (42) Jesus said to them, "Have you never read in the Scriptures: "'The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; this was the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes'? (43) Therefore I tell you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people producing its fruits. (44) And the one who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; and when it falls on anyone, it will crush him." (45) When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they perceived that he was speaking about them. (46) And although they were seeking to arrest him, they feared the crowds, because they held him to be a prophet.
These Verses relate to the rejection by God of the fleshly natural blood line nation of Israel; and the Creation of the new "Spiritual Israel" of God. (Galatians 6:16 of 12-16) The Jews refused to honor and worship the God who made them his special nation, and so he rejected them as a fleshly nation and made his "New Creation" consisting of all who put faith in Christ. Jews and Gentiles all alike, are made Abraham's descendants by faith. (Gal 3:26-29)
Matthew 21:33-46 GW "Listen to another illustration. A landowner planted a vineyard. He put a wall around it, made a winepress, and built a watchtower. Then he leased it to vineyard workers and went on a trip. (34) "When the grapes were getting ripe, he sent his servants to the workers to collect his share of the produce. (35) The workers took his servants and beat one, killed another, and stoned a third to death. (36) So the landowner sent more servants. But the workers treated them the same way. (37) "Finally, he sent his son to them. He thought, 'They will respect my son.' (38) "When the workers saw his son, they said to one another, 'This is the heir. Let's kill him and get his inheritance.' (39) So they grabbed him, threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him. (40) "Now, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those workers?" (41) They answered, "He will destroy those evil people. Then he will lease the vineyard to other workers who will give him his share of the produce when it is ready." (42) Jesus asked them, "Have you never read in the Scriptures: 'The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. The Lord is responsible for this, and it is amazing for us to see'? (43) That is why I can guarantee that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce what God wants. (44) Anyone who falls on this stone will be broken. If the stone falls on anyone, it will crush that person." (45) When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his illustrations, they knew that he was talking about them. (46) They wanted to arrest him but were afraid of the crowds, who thought he was a prophet.
Matthew 21:33-46 CEV Jesus told the chief priests and leaders to listen to this story: A land owner once planted a vineyard. He built a wall around it and dug a pit to crush the grapes in. He also built a lookout tower. Then he rented out his vineyard and left the country. (34) When it was harvest time, the owner sent some servants to get his share of the grapes. (35) But the renters grabbed those servants. They beat up one, killed one, and stoned one of them to death. (36) He then sent more servants than he did the first time. But the renters treated them in the same way. (37) Finally, the owner sent his own son to the renters, because he thought they would respect him. (38) But when they saw the man's son, they said, "Someday he will own the vineyard. Let's kill him! Then we can have it all for ourselves." (39) So they grabbed him, threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him. (40) Jesus asked, "When the owner of that vineyard comes, what do you suppose he will do to those renters?" (41) The chief priests and leaders answered, "He will kill them in some horrible way. Then he will rent out his vineyard to people who will give him his share of grapes at harvest time." (42) Jesus replied, "You surely know that the Scriptures say, 'The stone that the builders tossed aside is now the most important stone of all. This is something the Lord has done, and it is amazing to us.' (43) I tell you that God's kingdom will be taken from you and given to people who will do what he demands. (44) Anyone who stumbles over this stone will be crushed, and anyone it falls on will be smashed to pieces." (45) When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard these stories, they knew that Jesus was talking about them. (46) So they looked for a way to arrest Jesus. But they were afraid to, because the people thought he was a prophet.
Matthew 21:33-46 GNB "Listen to another parable," Jesus said. "There was once a landowner who planted a vineyard, put a fence around it, dug a hole for the wine press, and built a watchtower. Then he rented the vineyard to tenants and left home on a trip. (34) When the time came to gather the grapes, he sent his slaves to the tenants to receive his share of the harvest. (35) The tenants grabbed his slaves, beat one, killed another, and stoned another. (36) Again the man sent other slaves, more than the first time, and the tenants treated them the same way. (37) Last of all he sent his son to them. 'Surely they will respect my son,' he said. (38) But when the tenants saw the son, they said to themselves, 'This is the owner's son. Come on, let's kill him, and we will get his property!' (39) So they grabbed him, threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him. (40) "Now, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?" Jesus asked. (41) "He will certainly kill those evil men," they answered, "and rent the vineyard out to other tenants, who will give him his share of the harvest at the right time." (42) Jesus said to them, "Haven't you ever read what the Scriptures say? 'The stone which the builders rejected as worthless turned out to be the most important of all. This was done by the Lord; what a wonderful sight it is!' (43) "And so I tell you," added Jesus, "the Kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce the proper fruits." (44) OMITTED TEXT (45) The chief priests and the Pharisees heard Jesus' parables and knew that he was talking about them, (46) so they tried to arrest him. But they were afraid of the crowds, who considered Jesus to be a prophet.
