--- Who was Melchizedek? ---
A priest after Abraham became God's friend God,
(Isa 41:8)
but before the priesthood among Abraham's descendants?

Melchizedek was king of the ancient city of Salem, which is believed to have later become Jerusalem. He was a priest appointed directly by God, as Aaron later was. (Exo 28:1) He was thus both a king, and a priest, which gave additional reason for the Jews [and all of us today] to accept Jesus as both their King and their Priest. (Psa 110:1  4)

Further exemplifying Christ, Melchizedek's priesthood was higher than the Abrahamic priesthood, because the Levitical Priesthood [Levi being a son of Aaron] paid tithes to Melchizedek when Abraham did so. (Heb 7:1-10)

Some speculate that Melchizedek was just a normal man who lived at that time and died as men have done since Adam's sin. All any of us really know about Melchizedek, however, is what the Bible actually says... (Heb 7:1-3 of 1-10) We know his existence was in large part to help us have faith in Jesus Christ. (Gal 3:23-26)
