1 Corinthians 11:27-31 BBE (27) If, then, anyone takes the bread [flesh] or the cup [blood] of the Lord in the wrong spirit, he will be responsible for the body and blood of the Lord. (28) But let no man take of the bread and the cup without testing himself. (29) For a man puts himself in danger, if he takes part in the holy meal without being conscious that it is the Lord's body. (30) For this cause a number of you are feeble and ill, and a number are dead. (31) But if we were true judges of ourselves, punishment would not come on us. (We can only discern what we ourselves are by feeding on the words of Christ! - James 1:22-25)

Verses 29 and 30 says we must accurately discern the body of Christ and that we will continue to get sick and die until we do so. While Jesus didn't fully explain to them, because there was no benefit to the people he was talking to understanding in their day in time, it would not be possible to discern the truth about eating the body of Christ until the time arrived when Jesus's followers would be able to take full advantage of doing so.
All of those people Jesus was speaking to continued to get old and sick and die...
It is time to discern and eat the body of Christ,
by simply reading his words!

1 Corinthians 11:27-31 GW (27) Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks from the Lord's cup in an improper way will be held responsible for the Lord's body and blood. (28) With this in mind, individuals must determine whether what they are doing is proper when they eat the bread and drink from the cup. (29) Anyone who eats and drinks is eating and drinking a judgment against himself when he doesn't recognize the Lord's body. (30) This is the reason why many of you are weak and sick and quite a number of you have died. (31) If we were judging ourselves correctly, we would not be judged. (We can only discern what we ourselves are by feeding on the words of Christ! - James 1:22-25)

1 Corinthians 11:27-31 NWT 27 Consequently whoever eats the loaf or drinks the cup of the Lord unworthily will be guilty respecting the body and the blood of the Lord. 28 First let a man approve himself after scrutiny, and thus let him eat of the loaf and drink of the cup. 29 For he that eats and drinks eats and drinks judgment against himself if he does not discern the body. 30 That is why many among YOU are weak and sickly, and quite a few are sleeping [in death]. 31 But if we would discern what we ourselves are, we would not be judged. (30) That is why many of you are weak and ill, and some have died. (31) But if we judged ourselves truly, we would not be judged.
