1 John 4:7-19 CEV My dear friends, we must love each other. Love comes from God, and when we love each other, it shows that we have been given new life. We are now God's children, [2 Cor 5:17 of 16‑21] and we know him. (8) God is love, and anyone who doesn't love others has never known him. (9) God showed his love for us when he sent his only Son into the world to give us life. (10) Real love isn't our love for God, but his love for us. God sent his Son to be the sacrifice by which our sins are forgiven. (11) Dear friends, since God loved us this much, we must love each other. (12) No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and his love is truly in our hearts. (13) God has given us his Spirit. That is how we know that we are one with him, just as he is one with us. (14) God sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. We saw his Son and are now telling others about him. (15) God stays one with everyone who openly says that Jesus is the Son of God. That's how we stay one with God [John 3:31‑36] (16) and are sure that God loves us. God is love. If we keep on loving others, we will stay one in our hearts with God, and he will stay one with us. (17) If we truly love others and live as Christ did in this world, we won't be worried about the day of judgment. (18) A real love for others will chase those worries away. The thought of being punished is what makes us afraid. It shows that we have not really learned to love. (19) We love because God loved us first.

1 John 4:7-19 GNB Dear friends, let us love one another, because love comes from God. Whoever loves is a child of God and knows God. [2 Cor 5:17 of 16‑21] (8) Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love. (9) And God showed his love for us by sending his only Son into the world, so that we might have life through him. (10) This is what love is: it is not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the means by which our sins are forgiven. (11) Dear friends, if this is how God loved us, then we should love one another. (12) No one has ever seen God, but if we love one another, God lives in union with us, and his love is made perfect in us. (13) We are sure that we live in union with God and that he lives in union with us, because he has given us his Spirit. (14) And we have seen and tell others that the Father sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. (15) If we declare that Jesus is the Son of God, we live in union with God and God lives in union with us. [John 3:31‑36] (16) And we ourselves know and believe the love which God has for us. God is love, and those who live in love live in union with God and God lives in union with them. (17) Love is made perfect in us in order that we may have courage on the Judgment Day; and we will have it because our life in this world is the same as Christ's. (18) There is no fear in love; perfect love drives out all fear. So then, love has not been made perfect in anyone who is afraid, because fear has to do with punishment. (19) We love because God first loved us.

1 John 4:7-19 GW Dear friends, we must love each other because love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born from God [2 Cor 5:17 of 16‑21] and knows God. (8) The person who doesn't love doesn't know God, because God is love. (9) God has shown us his love by sending his only Son into the world so that we could have life through him. (10) This is love: not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the payment for our sins. (11) Dear friends, if this is the way God loved us, we must also love each other. (12) No one has ever seen God. If we love each other, God lives in us, and his love is perfected in us. (13) We know that we live in him and he lives in us because he has given us his Spirit. (14) We have seen and testify to the fact that the Father sent his Son as the Savior of the world. (15) God lives in those who declare that Jesus is the Son of God, and they live in God. [John 3:31‑36] (16) We have known and believed that God loves us. God is love. Those who live in God's love live in God, and God lives in them. (17) God's love has reached its goal in us. So we look ahead with confidence to the day of judgment. While we are in this world, we are exactly like him with regard to love. (18) No fear exists where his love is. Rather, perfect love gets rid of fear, because fear involves punishment. The person who lives in fear doesn't have perfect love. (19) We love because God loved us first.

1 John 4:7-19 NWT 7 Beloved ones, let us continue loving one another, because love is from God, and everyone who loves has been born from God [2 Cor 5:17 of 16‑21] and gains the knowledge of God. 8 He that does not love has not come to know God, because God is love. 9 By this the love of God was made manifest in our case, because God sent forth his only-begotten Son into the world that we might gain life through him. 10 The love is in this respect, not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent forth his Son as a propitiatory sacrifice for our sins. 11 Beloved ones, if this is how God loved us, then we are ourselves under obligation to love one another. 12 At no time has anyone beheld God. If we continue loving one another, God remains in us and his love is made perfect in us. 13 By this we gain the knowledge that we are remaining in union with him and he in union with us, because he has imparted his spirit to us. 14 In addition, we ourselves have beheld and are bearing witness that the Father has sent forth his Son as Savior of the world. 15 Whoever makes the confession that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, God remains in union with such one and he in union with God. [John 3:31‑36] 16 And we ourselves have come to know and have believed the love that God has in our case. God is love, and he that remains in love remains in union with God and God remains in union with him. 17 This is how love has been made perfect with us, that we may have freeness of speech in the day of judgment, because, just as that one is, so are we ourselves in this world. 18 There is no fear in love, but perfect love throws fear outside, because fear exercises a restraint. Indeed, he that is under fear has not been made perfect in love. 19 As for us, we love, because he first loved us.

You will note the reference windows often include more than one translation of the Bible. The reason is to strive to gain the best possible understanding of the original Hebrew and Greek. Since we don't speak those languages, we rely on those who have come before and made the effort to translate those texts into English for us. Considering several translations gives the benefit of the understanding of several translation committees or individuals.
