Matthew 24:21-22 ALT
(21) "For then [there] will be great tribulation [or, affliction], such as has not been from [the] beginning of the world until now, nor never at all shall be.
(22) "And if those days were not cut short, no flesh would be saved; but because of the chosen ones [or the ones being chosen], those days will be cut short.
Please note these verses identify the "Great tribulation" starting in 1914, which was also the year Christ was enthroned as eternal King of God's Kingdom over the earth, (Luke 1:30-33; 1 Cor 15:12-28) and distinguishes it from the lesser tribulation [or the beginning of childbirth pains] (Mat 24:4-8) starting in 607 BCE, when God's earthly kingdom was destroyed; thus beginning the appointed times for the Gentile Nations to rule the earth. (Luke 21:24 of 22-28) They contain both a warning and a promise: Jesus warned the "Great Tribulation" was coming, and it seems that is what we now see destroying our world. He also promised there in Mat 24:22 those days will be cut short, to protect those being selected to continue alive. So, are you protecting yourself...? That's the choice we are all making. The very simple judgment criteria: Express true and real faith in Jesus Christ, or don't. (John 12:48‑50; John 3:18‑21)
Matthew 24:21-22 ESV
For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, and never will be. (22) And if those days had not been cut short, no human being would be saved. But for the sake of the elect those days will be cut short.
Matthew 24:21-22 GNB
For the trouble at that time will be far more terrible than any there has ever been, from the beginning of the world to this very day. Nor will there ever be anything like it again. (22) But God has already reduced the number of days; had he not done so, nobody would survive. For the sake of his chosen people, however, God will reduce the days.
Matthew 24:21-22 BBE
(21) Because in those days there will be great sorrow, such as there has not been from the start of the world till now, or ever will be.
(22) And if those days had not been made short there would have been no salvation for any, but because of the saints those days will be made short.
Matthew 24:21-22 Darby
(21) for then shall there be great tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, nor ever shall be;
(22) and if those days had not been cut short, no flesh had been saved; but on account of the elect those days shall be cut short.

You will note the reference windows often include more than one translation of the Bible. The reason is to strive to gain the best possible understanding of the original Hebrew and Greek. Since we don't speak those languages, we rely on those who have come before and made the effort to translate those texts into English for us. Considering several translations gives the benefit of the understanding of several translation committees or individuals.
The Translations we quote are:
